Evil Dead 2 Beyond Dead by Dawn Comic Set 1.1

Evil Dead 2 Beyond Dead by Dawn Comic Set Front Covers

Evil Dead 2: Beyond Dead by Dawn is the direct follow-up to the 1987 cult classic. The Evil Dead fan will be pleased to hear that the story picks up right where the movie ends off. The story kicks off with a wild ride through hell with Annie as she fends off demons and tries to put everything together. When she reunites with Ash, it’s great to see a familiar face… or is it? Ash is confident and full of quips, and not to mention, incredibly powerful. These components make the sequences of him fighting monsters throughout the series very enjoyable. All this with a plot that actually requires some thought makes for a compelling reading experience. Our comic set includes the Certified Groovy Special Edition Variant #1, which features a bloody portrait of the man himself.

The art is great, especially considering that this comic series was done by a smaller studio like Space Goat Productions. Ash himself is very well-drawn and lives up to the movie-version of himself. As far as artwork goes, our favorite part was the effort spent on creating the various hell monsters that the duo encounter (see interior pictures above!).

Overall, a worthy continuation to the franchise! The Evil Dead comic books by Space Goat are not very well known, so hopefully this spotlight will share the existence of this to some fans.

Shadows on the Grave Comic Set 1.1

Shadows on the Grave Comic Set Front Covers

Shadows on the Grave by Richard Corben is the pinnacle of the Horror Anthology experience. This comic set functions as a good introduction to Richard Corben and to Horror Anthologies. There’s a certain charm to being able to sit down and enjoy a few short stories without too much commitment. We found that the majority of the stories were engaging and intriguing, with even the stranger concepts still being enjoyable. Sometimes, you just have to indulge in your sense of morbid curiosity when it comes to Richard Corben’s work.

Richard Corben is one of our favorite artists here at Collectible Entertainment. Seeing a Horror Anthology with so much passion put into every panel is thrilling. Our favorite part is being able to get eight issues worth of Corben’s artwork! With such a wide range of concepts and environments, he is fully able to flex his creative skill. A prime example of this haunting creativity is the root monster transformation in the second story of issue #1 “Roots of Terror” (see interior pictures above). It only took several pages into the first issue to leave a lasting impression on us!

Overall, the Richard Corben enthusiast won’t want to miss this. It also fills in the niche for the fans who enjoy horror anthologies. Our ideal rainy day is relaxing on the couch with snacks and the Shadows on the Grave Comic Set.

Walking Dead Volume 1 Days Gone Bye Limited Hardcover 1.1

Walking Dead Volume 1 Days Gone Bye Front Cover

The Walking Dead: Volume 1 – Days Gone Bye Retailer Incentive Hardcover is a rarity in the world of Walking Dead collecting. This book is factory sealed and features an intro and thank you letter from Robert Kirkman. The front cover is gorgeous with a Red Foil-Embossed zombie on an all-black book. The black and foil-red make for an excellent color combination. And need we even discuss the story? Being one of the most iconic stories in all of zombiedom, the first six issues of The Walking Dead are an excellent read. Rick Grimes’ initial moments in the zombie apocalypse are very memorable and nostalgic. Can you believe The Walking Dead Issue #1 first came out 20 years ago?

Tony Moore’s black and white artwork is also iconic. From countless panels of Rick Grimes looking badass, to the horrifically gory depiction of the undead, Tony Moore is truly an artist to be reckoned with. A highlight for us is the detailed facial expressions of both the human characters and the shambling undead. The look of horror on Rick’s face when he first discovers the emaciated female zombie corpse outside of the hospital is burned into our memory. Tony Moore perfectly captures a mixture of horror, sadness, and disgust in this moment.

Overall, the more serious Walking Dead fans will want to consider adding this rare hardcover to their collection. You will be hard-pressed to find a book like this still factory sealed.
