Artist and Writer Basil Wolverton created Spacehawk for Novelty Press, and his first appearance was in that publisher’s Target Comics #5 in June 1940. Spacehawk was conceived as an 800-year old super-powerful being from an alien race dedicated to preserving justice in the spaceways, and initially appeared fully masked and completely covered by a heavy space suit. Spacehawk was revealed to be a very-human appearing male with Hollywood leading-man good looks once he unmasked in a subsequent adventure to claim a kiss from the imperiled Queen Haba whom he had just rescued from a coterie of grotesque alien monstrosities. Spacehawk had no secret identity, no fixed base of operations beyond his spaceship, and no sidekicks or love interests. He had but one mission in life: to protect the innocent throughout the Solar System, and to punish the guilty.
With the coming of interplanetary travel, the legions of the law find it impossible to cope with the pirates, killers, and other criminals lurking in space… then, apparently out of nowhere comes the superhuman enemy of crime, the mysterious Spacehawk! Thereafter, bandits of the void begin to disappear, for they soon learn to fear the amazing powers of the Spacehawk who always strikes without warning…
The 3-D Zone #18: Spacehawk 3-D contains:
“The Pirate City On Venus” 10 pages
When inter-galactic police spaceship is lured to a planet, to a city controlled by pirates, Spacehawk must save them. The pirate commander of the City of Gark captures the police and orders that they be thrown into the jungle where they are quickly devoured by jungle space monsters. Only the police captain manages to escape but is quickly set upon by a giant jungle bat. Spacehawk is too late to save the police captain, but the captain’s dying wish is for Spacehawk to transfer his brain in to a jungle space monster so he can take revenge for his crew. Spacehawk reluctantly complies and is successful. Together, Spacehawk and the jungle space monster, take down the pirate city and its evil commander.

“Mayhem At the Martian Election” 10 pages
Spacehawk goes in disguise to infiltrate a corrupt election and spare the citizens of a corrupt ruler. Using a secret weapon that is able to destroy an entire planet, Glork begins the destruction of his planet. Now, with the entire planet in peril, Spacehawk has more than corrupt elections to worry about…

Suddenly news comes in that the west coast is being attacked by the Japanese. Spacehawk rockets to where the battle is and discovers a gigantic, heavily armored, Japanese zeppelin aircraft carrier with enemy airplanes constantly being spewed out. Spacehawk takes action and boards the zeppelin with his new vibration weapon. Spacehawk activates the weapon and the zeppelin goes down. Spacehawk proves that his weapon can be an asset to the war.
