Adam Strange was an Earth-born space hero who was a regular star of DC’s old Mystery in Space series. He got his start as a noted archaeologist who was excavating an ancient Inca city when he was struck by a “Zeta Beam” sent from the distant planet Rann. The beam had originally been sent by Rann’s scientist Sardath as a way of contacting alien life forms, but instead it accidentally brought Strange back. While on Rann, he stopped an invasion and became a hero, but the beam’s effects wore off and he was returned to Earth. Luckily, other beams had been sent, and by catching them at the right place on Earth, he could travel back and forth.

In this three-issue series, Strange gets a 90s-style update, exposing more sinister sides of Sardath’s plans, and offering Adam Strange one final chance to visit Earth before a “Mega-Zeta Beam” makes his transport to Rann permanent.

Story/Spoilers
First in book #1, Adam Strange returns to Earth one last time before coming to live on Rann forever. Rann suffers from unrest. Alanna begins to suspect that Sardath brought Adam to Rann on purpose. The new Zeta Beam brings Adam back but the experience makes him temporarily insane and he attacks Sardath. Adam is forced to go on the run.

Next in book #2, Adam is on the run in the wilds of Rann. The ruling council of Ranagar is lost without the critically injured Sardath. Marleah plans a revolution to take over Rann. Dr. Eve Fox is obsessed with finding Adam. The Council falls into chaos. Adam is found by Bantteir, who is Alanna’s mother. Alanna goes into labor. Eve is transported to Rann. The other citystate of Zared attacks Ranagar.

Finally in book #3, Bantteir tells Adam her story. Alanna is attacked by a crazed last member of the Council. A wackier Sardath saves Alanna. Eve Fox meets Alanna. The forces from Zared continue to attack. Alanna gives birth but dies in the process. The addled Sardath puts Ranagar in a force field and launches it into space. The survivors create a new society.
