Stories/Spoilers
In part #1, An unknown person shown in a first-person perspective goes to visit Finn and Jake and they look at Ooo through a telescope until a Gumball Guardian, with Ice King inside of its dome, attacks the Tree Fort and captures Finn and Jake. Ice King claims he is just going to mind control it for a little bit just to see what it’s like to be big, but he lost control.

Jake gives the person his and Finn’s “Adventure Tome,” which has all sort of information such as good places for adventures, a list of enemies and frenemies and a list of Finn and Jake’s favorite fighting moves. The person remarks that the book was useless to help the situation.

The person is able to get inside the Guardian and hit its reset switch, releasing Finn, Jake, and Ice King. Ice King explains he used a mind control enchantment that allowed him to make the Gumball Guardian obey two commands. After he made his first request of knowing what’s it like to be big, he told him “Who cares? Go do whatever! Go nuts!”, thus creating the problem. It is then heavily implied that Finn and Jake planned this with the Ice King to give the person an exciting afternoon, though they defensively deny it and give the person the Adventure Tome as they leave.

As the person returns home and gets ready for bed, it is revealed that the person is, in fact, Princess Bubblegum and today was her birthday.

Next in part #2, Finn and Jake are taking a day off from adventuring and Finn shows Jake a stand he built for his root sword. As they laze around, they notice gum arising from the the floorboards which attacks them.

In the Candy Kingdom, Princess Bubblegum is getting ready for the day until she realizes how unappealing the tasks are and has Peppermint Butler cancel them. Princess Bubblegum then talks to Peppermint Butler about her worries about the safety of the Candy Kingdom, between the constant attacks and the story Finn and Jake told her about trip to the future, Princess Bubblegum realizes that they only need to mess up once to lose forever. The conversation is cut short when Marceline shows up early for lunch. Princess Bubblegum asks Marceline how to best protect her kingdom and express an interest on trying to find protection for the kingdom instead of constantly relying on Finn and Jake.

At the Tree Fort, Jake is messing with the Gum until he notices it’s trying to force its way down his throat, so he grabs Finn and BMO and carries them to the roof.

In the Candy Kingdom, the Gum is erupting through the floors of Princess Bubblegum’s room. Peppermint Butler attempts to fend it off, but gets engulfed by it.

At the Tree Fort, Finn, Jake and BMO are forced to leave the Tree Fort as the Gum overtakes it, complaining that their home is constantly damaged by evil-doers. They run away as the Gum follows them.

Back at the Candy Kingdom, Princess Bubblegum has the Banana Guards lock the castle doors and uses a experimental fire extinguisher to cover the room in five layers of jawbreaker candy and calls Finn and Jake to gloat that she’s taken care of the problem.

Finn and Jake have outrun the Gum and are close to the Candy Kingdom when BMO alerts them to a call from the Princess who quickly brags about her victory over the Gum before hanging up. Finn and Jake are offended of how fast the call was and how quickly she hung up before they had the chance to congratulate her until BMO points out it’s a recording. It turns out Princess Bubblegum made the call thirty-six hours ago, but Finn and Jake were still in bed at the time and just told BMO to set alarm to remind them later.

Finn and Jake go to look at the Candy Kingdom and it’s covered by the Gum.

Next in part #3, Finn, Jake and BMO run into the gum covered Candy Kingdom, having been chased there by living gum. They attempt to fight it, but it goes straight past them and engulfs a fleeing Starchie. Starchie gets out of the gum with pink eyes and a pink mouth and says he’s fine, Jake grabs Finn and runs off in another direction. He explains to Finn that he noticed Starchie wasn’t speaking in the third-person anymore and that the gum changed him somehow.

In the underground Science Prison, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline are racing down a hallway from a giant glob of gum. They run into a room and weld themselves in.

Finn and Jake make their way to Princess Bubblegum’s castle, but they run up to more brainwashed Candy People. They attempted to sneak past them by having Jake use his stretchy powers to make sunglasses to cover their eyes, but Peppermint Butler demands that they take them off and all the Candy People attempt to make them eat the gum. But they are able to escape into Princess Bubblegum’s room where they find a note written by her on a map to the Science Prison telling them how to get there.

In the Science Prison, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum try to figure out what to do as the gum is swarming outside and they don’t have the materials in the room to make a large flamethrower to destroy it and even if they did destroy it, it wouldn’t help the brainwashed Candy People. Bubblegum is about to reveal a personal secret to Marceline when they hear a knocking at the door. Thinking it’s Finn, Bubblegum opens the peephole and it’s revealed that Finn and Jake have been taken over by the gum and have brought all the brainwash Candy People with them.

Next in part #4, Finn and Jake have been taken over by the Gum that’s swarming the Candy Kingdom, and Princess Bubblegum believes that “she” won’t stop until “she” has covered the entire world. Marceline wonders how Princess Bubblegum knows the gum’s gender, and as the banging gets louder she convinces the princess to tell her what she knows about it.

Princess Bubblegum relays the story (with improv dialogue from Marceline) of how she woke up one morning several years earlier and wanted to have a child to succeed her as ruler. Not having the time or patience to raise a child of her own, she decided to inject her DNA into other Candy People, which failed completely. After removing her DNA from the Candy People, she decided it was best to go alone and used her scientific skill to create a child from gum. The experiment was succeeding until Princess Bubblegum gave “her” a Candy Heart.

The story is interrupted as the brainwashed Finn and Jake are able to break through the door. Marceline is able to transform into a monster and subdue the two into test tubes while Princess Bubblegum re-welds the door shut. Bubblegum is able to x-ray the two, and she discovers that the gum has worked its way into their brains, which is a problem as Princess Bubblegum knows nothing about brain surgery.

At that point, the Gum finally breaks through the door, and Finn and Jake break out of the test tubes. Marceline turns into a monster, grabs Princess Bubblegum, and bursts through the castle walls. They find that the Gum has spread all across the land, except for one place, Castle Lemongrab, where the Earl of Lemongrab is waiting for them.

Finally in part #5, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline show up at Castle Lemongrab asking Lemongrab why hasn’t he been taken over by the Gum. He screams that he is better than the Gum and that sweet and sour are natural enemies. Lemongrab’s loud and obnoxious personality annoys Marceline, and the two nearly come to blows until Princess Bubblegum calms the situation with a tea party. Deciding to test Lemongrab theory on sweet and sour, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum go grab Jake from the Gum and throw him into Lemongrab. Lemon juice squirts out of his head and soaks onto the Gum, and it recedes, curing Jake.

Lemongrab remarks that none of the Lemon Kids have juices because of “reasons.” Princess Bubblegum deduces that Lemongrab has only has enough juice left to give a drop to everyone, meaning they will need to some introduce the juice directly to the gum stuck in everyone’s brains. But before Princess Bubblegum can enact her plan of giving impromptu brain surgery to everyone in the Candy Kingdom, Jake comes up with another plan.

Soaked in lemon juice and using his stretchy powers, Jake envelopes Lemongrab and covers the entire Gum affected area. He then has Lemongrab squeeze out the rest of his juice and uses his powers to insert himself into everyone’s head to apply the drop to the gum on their brains, freeing everyone.

Later, Bubblegum continues her story, explaining that the Gum had a desire to hug everyone around it and had apparently learned mind control at some point. After the Gum experiment failed, she repeated the experiment, except that time she greatly reduced the sweetness, resulting in Lemongrab. As for the Gum, she receded back to where she was before, a nearly bottomless hole marked “Gum Kingdom” until she learns boundaries. Princess Bubblegum jests that despite all her preparations, her kingdom still needed to be saved by a boy and his dog as her gentle chuckle turns into crazed laughter.
