Stories/Spoilers
In part #1, The issue is told from the perspective of a red gem named Carl. 65 million years ago, during the dinosaur age, a meteor shower happens and one of the meteors hits a volcano and sinks into the mantle where the heat and pressure turns it into Carl. His friend, a blue gemstone named Gemma, was supposed to land with him, but she accidental fell into another volcano. They would stay separated for millions of years waiting for tectonic movement to move them to the surface.
In Ooo, long ago, Bonnibel Bubblegum is tunneling below the ruins of an old city (basically recreating mining), where she locates the gem and when it starts raining, she calls Marceline to pick up when it. Bored, she starts playing “Buns Punch 2” on 3MO, until Marceline comes and sees her playing the game (much to Bonnibel’s embarrassment). As they fly off, Bonnibel reveals that she found Gemma and is planning to turn the two gems into friendship amulets for the two of them. She also reveals that Carl can shoot lasers, while Gemma can bring robots to life. Marceline drops Princess Bubblegum off at a work sight where she has robots building her “eternal kingdom.” Marceline leaves and goes to the Tree Fort, where she puts her amulet in a chest and calls Bonnibel, who reveals that the she’s having problems with Ooze Monster attacks but has a plan to deal with them and all she’ll need is a little candy.
A couple hundred years later, Marceline is angry because she feels that the now Princess Bubblegum has abandoned their friendship and is destroying her room in a rage until she knocks open the box with Carl in it and becomes saddened. She picks up the old walkie-talkie the two used to use to relay her feeling on the situation, saying that she knows that Bubblegum has more responsibilities now, but hopes they can find a way to keep their friendship going and promises to help with the construction of the Candy Kingdom. Unbeknownst to Marceline, a teary eyed Princess Bubblegum heard everything.
In present day, Finn and Jake discover Carl in a treasure box Marceline left in the attic before she moved. However, Ricardio, with his limbs repaired, bursts in and takes the treasure chest, proclaiming that the chest has the “Power of Paltime” and taking its essence will make Princess Bubblegum want to hang out with him. After subduing the two with Carl’s laser, Ricardio uses Gemma to bring the Tree Fort alive, revealing that it is, in fact, a giant robot (Princess Bubblegum built it into the house for Marceline protection without her knowledge). Ricardio commands Robohouse to beat up Finn and Jake and take him to the Candy Kingdom. Robohouse violently throws them out the window, but are caught by Marceline and Princess Bubblegum who tracked Ricardio here after he stole Princess Bubblegum’s amulet. Ricardio order Robohouse to attack the group, but it has a fail-safe that prevents it from harming Marceline. Marceline bursts into Robohouse and reprograms the fail-safe to apply to all of them while Princess Bubblegum and Finn beat up Ricardio, take the amulets back and cut off his arms. Marceline then has Robohouse hit Ricardio so hard he flies right back into Ice King’s chest.
Marceline suggest that they make the amulets symbols of the friendship of the four and Finn and Jake suggest they put them back in the treasure chest and put it in a “heroes only” dungeon that they’ll build. So the four built the dungeon and Carl and Gemma are finally happily reunited. The Finn, Jake, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum still came back to add treasure to the treasure chest at time, growing older with every visit from Carl’s perspective.
At the story’s end, it is revealed that it is the far future and Carl and Gemma was telling their life stories to a young female adventurer who managed to make through the dungeon and claim the treasure.
Next in part #2, BMO wakes up and wants to tell Finn and Jake about a dream it had about it chewing gum, but they’ve left to explore secret military factory that they think is a dungeon.
Misreading a sign warning against putting hands in machinery as a dungeon puzzle, Jake sticks his hands in some gears while Finn turns on the power to the room. Jake’s arm is painfully stretched until Finn turns off the power. As they continue through the factory they discuss how easier life would be without bodies, as they wouldn’t have to deal with pain or maintaining bodily health and such. They reach a missile production room and mistake another warning sign against standing too close to the missiles as a puzzle. Jake get smacked aside by a missile being moved and they continue.
As they continue their conversation about how not having bodies would be awesome, they come across a electricity testing room and decide to skip it. Still mistaking the factory for dungeon, they now think it’s a dungeon for babies since you can skip “puzzle.” They then come across a science chamber of some kind. Noticing a sign warning against going in the chamber that shows a person turning into a ghost, they decide to go in it to try and lose their bodies.
They come out as ghost, but they accidentally frighten BMO, who was able to trace their location.
Next in part #3, BMO is freaking out after seeing Finn and Jake as ghosts until Jake uses an override code to make it think ghosts are cool. They decide to use their new ghost bodies to spy on Ice King and scare him. They find him practicing with Guntor on how to go on dates. Ice King cannot see or hear Finn and Jake because of their ghost powers, but he can see BMO spying on him and invites him to join them, which it heartily accepts. Finn and Jake first attempt to scare Ice King by making scary noises but he dismisses it as a draft from the window. The second attempt is throwing some pots and pans around, but Ice King decides to make the best of it by using his Ice Powers to catch the pots to boil eggs. Realizing how helpful they’re being, they decide to go to the Candy Kingdom to help the citizens.
At the Candy Kingdom, they use their ghost powers to splash a puddle out of a candy lady’s way… only for it to splash on a bunch of pedestrians. Since the crowd can’t see the duo they blame the candy lady and angrily carry her off. They then try to help an sprinkled donut with his baking, only for him to run away screaming at the levitating baking goods.
They then try to help Princess Bubblegum by helping her turn pages on a book she’s reading. She panics, thinking that invisible monsters have gotten past the tower’s defenses. She locks her room down and deploys cotton candy to try and see where the monsters are and Finn and Jake try to mold it into a statue of Finn to try to tell her who they are, but that fails because it makes her think that there’s a ghost of a monster in her room. She tries to call Finn, but he left his cellphone back at the ghost chamber. She then calls in a new group called the Ghost Destroyers, who come chomping at the bit to prove themselves by destroying every ghost in the tower.
Next in part #4, The Ghost Destroyers rush in the Princess Bubblegum’s castle and their leader, Anti-Ghost Princess, proceeds to impress the princess with her skills in ghost equipment and lets her work the ghost capturing apparatus, capturing Jake. She almost captures Finn but he causes the to apparatus jam and accidentally causes a cascade failure in the containment unit, releasing every ghost the Ghost Destroyers ever captured.
Princess Bubblegum doesn’t see anything but Anti-Ghost Princess explain that ghost are invisible a lot of the time while being cryptic about why she knows a lot about ghosts. Princess Bubblegum realizes that there isn’t an Anti-Ghost Kingdom and inquires about Anti-Ghost Princess’ past. Anti-Ghost Princess reveals that she is, in fact, Warrior Princess, the former Ghost Princess. She explains that after she and Clarence went to the 50th Dead World, Clarence abandoned her for all the other ghost girls and she was bullied by all the other ghost since she was the only nice ghost ever. So she escaped 50th Dead World through sheer force of will and vowed that no ghost would ever walk the land again and become an expert in ghost hunting.
Jake reunites with Finn and explains that all the ghosts that are escaping are all super evil jerks and they go try to stop her while Princess Bubblegum and the Ghost Destroyers try to come up with a plan. Finn and Jake try to punch a ghost that harassing citizens but find that even if they make themselves solid, the other ghosts can make themselves intangible. Princess Bubblegum tries to use the remaining ghost capturing equipment, but now the ghost know how to jam the equipment and free the ghost from the other containment units. Anti-Ghost Princess is ready to give up, but Princess Bubblegum has another idea. She presents her Omega Protocol, a single use, last resort that will temporarily turn the entire Candy Kingdom into good ghosts to fight off the bad ones. Finn and Jake write on the cotton candy on the floor to try to tell her that they’re ghosts now and this won’t work since they just tried this plan, but she doesn’t read the whole message. She convinces the unsure Anti-Ghost Princess to go along with the plan since she is Warrior Princess and the Candy Kingdom is going to war and they activate the Omega Protocol.
Finally in part #5, Finn and Jake are back in their bodies, but it looks like the damage is done. Princess Bubblegum has turned everyone into ghosts so they could beat up some ghosts that were harassing the candy kingdom. Finn and Jake go help Princess Bubblegum with this escapade. Will our heroes be able to right everything they’ve done or is Ooo finally lost?
