Description

The Adventures of Rick Raygun and Quasi-Nodoze                                    Comics Lot
Writer: Rudy Holmes
Artist: Rudy Holmes
Editor: Jeff Dunkerson
All Covers by: Rudy Holmes

Fighting drugs, crime, prostitution, and intergalactic mayhem. It’s all in a day’s work for Ion Police Officer Rick Raygun and his trusty partner Quasi-Nodoze. Rick Raygun, with his dapper pencil thin moustache, ever-present helmet, and trusty raygun keeps the peace in a universe crawling with space pirates and corrupt cops. Accompanied by his short, green alien sidekick, Quasi-Nodoze, Rick Raygun pilots his Class 3-D Police Cruiser through space in search of adventure and wrongs to right. Reminiscent of other space faring adventures like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, Rick Raygun maintains a nostalgic feel while humorously poking fun at the science-fiction genre.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Somewhere deep in the black void of space., a class 3-D Police Cruiser floats idle nonchalance as its two-man crew effects minor repairs. The Ion Cops have just finished a three-week long, routine patrol of the backwash planets that make up “The Hamestone Belt”. The system is usually crawling with pirates preying on the rich and famous that use the pleasure cities of these planets as personal playgrounds. This tour of duty has left Rick Raygun and Quasi-Nodoze bored and restless. Now, they are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Ion Patrol Carrier, “IPC Hydra 7”, unaware that they about to alter the course of the entire galaxy!

Next in issue #2, Alerted by a mysterious emergency transmission, Rick and Quasi have landed on the planet “Manhatten 7”, only to find a normally busy casino littered with fresh corpses. The perpetrator of this atrocity appears to be a renegade Ion Policeman who, after killing several police officers and taking a hostage, has sought refuge in an abandoned tower. He has in his possession a stolen artifact, a canister containing an unknown power, and after observing its contents, has apparently gone insane. Pursued by Rick and trapped on the top floor of the building, the crazed officer has literally blasted the ladder from underneath Rick, leaving him dangling precariously…

Next in issue #3, Answering a distress call from the planet “Manhatten 7”, Rick and Quasi discover that a renegade Ion Policeman, having stolen an F.O.S.E., artifact, has taken a hostage. Rick corners him in the top floor of a tower, but is blinded when Sgt. Perches dumps the contents of the canister into his face. Meanwhile, Quasi has a confrontation with a synthoid inside the cruiser, ending in its unexplained death. The cruiser then crashes into the tower, destroying Perches, but saving Rick and the hostage. Once aboard Hydra 7 , Dr. Leiber creates glasses which restore Rick’s eyesight. Then, during an examination of the “lifeless” synthoid, Rick, Quasi, and Captain Krane are attacked by a tentacled monstrosity hidden within the body…

Next in issue #4, A confrontation with an Ion Policeman-turned-thief on “Manhatten 7” ends in blindness for Rick when the contents of a stolen F.O.S.E. artifact are poured into his eyes. Once aboard I.P.C. Hydra 7, Dr. Leiber gives Rick special glasses which allow him to see normally. Meanwhile, a deactivated synthoid, which contains yet another assassination device, is unwittingly brought aboard the Hydra. This new threat, a metamorphic arthropoid, is controlled by the holographic image of an assassin from the “Hand of Vivian” who, having learned of the power in Rick’s eyes, is determined to have his head. With the help of Quasi, the creature is flushed into space, but now Rick and Quasi find themselves under arrest…

Finally in issue #5, While on a routine patrol, Rick and Quasi are diverted to the pleasure planet, Manhatten 7, by a mysterious distress call. Rick’s eyes are exposed to the ancient chemical weapon called “Le’rok Da’shol” and he becomes temporarily blind. Upon returning to their baseship, the “I.P.C. Hydra 7 “, Rick, Quasi and Capt. Krane are attacked by a metamorphic arthropoid which has been sent by an assassin’s guild to retrieve the substance living in Rick’s eyes. After defeating the creature, Rick and Quasi find themselves under arrest. They are sent to Raasheen, the headquarters of the Ion Police, where Rick learns the nature of “Le’rok Da’shol” and is about to undergo tests to determine its effects on him. An attempt on the life of Commander Tootheefo is averted by Rick’s quick actions. Now all are awaiting the results of the tests as the future of the Ion Bloc hangs in the balance.
