Alien is a 1979 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O’Bannon. Based on a story by O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, it follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo, who encounter the eponymous Alien, an aggressive and deadly extraterrestrial set loose on the ship. The film stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. The Alien and its accompanying artifacts were designed by the Swiss artist H. R. Giger. It is considered one of the greatest films of all time. The success of Alien spawned a media franchise of films, novels, comic books, video games, and toys. It also launched Weaver’s acting career, providing her with her first lead role. The story of her character’s encounters with the Alien creatures became the thematic and narrative core of the sequels Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), and Alien Resurrection (1997). A crossover with the Predator franchise produced the Alien vs. Predator films: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007). A prequel series includes Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017), both directed by Ridley Scott.
In 2122 the multinational corporation Weyland-Yutani diverted their commercial towing vehicle the Nostromo to LV-426, a moon orbiting the planet Calpamos. Weyland-Yutani, purporting to answer a possible distress call, secretly wished to secure specimens of a dangerous alien species known as Xenomorphs for study and profit. Tragedy struck the crew of the Nostromo.
In 2179 a colony known as Hadley’s Hope, built on LV-426, was overrun by Xenomorphs. An attempt to rescue the colony was also met with tragedy.
The Year is now 2200. Weyland-Yutani still controls vast swaths of the spaceways. But there are some things in space that cannot be controlled…
Stories/Spoilers
In issue #1, Recently retired, Cruz is trying to patch things up with his abandoned son with the help of his friend, a Bishop-model android, but his re-entry into civilian life is not going smoothly… and his encounters with the deadly Xenomorph are far from over. He is haunted by nightmares of the Xenomorphs on the verge of his retirement from the security team in Weyland-Yutani’s Earth satellite. He reunites with his son Danny on Earth for a brief, awkward encounter that Danny uses as a pretext to steal a data drive from his father. Gabe continues therapy with a Bishop unit to work through his traumatic memories while Danny and his girlfriend Iris storm the Epsilon Station satellite where Gabe used to work, killing staff and attempting to destroy data for corporate espionage but they come across a room full of biological experiments using Xenomorph DNA. The laboratory is locked by two staff members just as facehuggers burst into the chamber and kill them all.
