Alien Nation is a 1988 American buddy cop neo-noir science fiction action film directed by Graham Baker. The ensemble cast features James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. Its initial popularity inaugurated the beginning of the Alien Nation media franchise. The film depicts the assimilation of the “Newcomers”, an alien race settling in Los Angeles, much to the initial dismay of the local population. The plot integrates the neo-noir and buddy cop film genres with a science fiction theme, centering on a union between a veteran police investigator and an extraterrestrial; the first Newcomer detective. The duo probe a criminal underworld attempting to solve a homicide.
The Alien Nation: A Breed Apart 1990-1991 mini-series continues the science-fiction saga of Alien Nation. The Newcomers have integrated themselves into many levels of society. Log b’Omen, a Newcomer, is a Los Angeles police detective partnered with Wayne Hadenfeldt, a human with 20 years on the force. Friar Haddish, another Newcomer, is consolidating his power as head of an organized crime cartel.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Newcomer Detective Log b’Omen and his human partner Detective Wayne Hadenfeldt respond to a call of a civilian being stalked in his home by armed assassins. Wayne Hadenfeldt is seriously wounded. Will Log b’Omen find a connection between the assassination attempt and the powerful Newcomer Friar kaddish?
Next in issue #2, Answering a burglary call, Detective Log b’Omen and his human partner Detective Wayne Hadenfeldt found themselves in the middle of a “hit”. The resulting firefight landed Wayne Hadenfeldt in the hospital, and left several unanswered questions for Log b’Omen to figure out.
Next in issue #3, While Wayne Hadenfeldt recovers in the hospital, Log b’Omen uncovers new information about the supposed “hit” and Friar Kaddish sets his plans into motion…
Finally in issue #4, The discovery of an obelisk raises more questions than it solves for Detective Log b’Omen and his human partner Detective Wayne Hadenfeldt.
