Alien Nation is a 1988 American buddy cop neo-noir science fiction action film directed by Graham Baker. The ensemble cast features James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. Its initial popularity inaugurated the beginning of the Alien Nation media franchise. The film depicts the assimilation of the “Newcomers”, an alien race settling in Los Angeles, much to the initial dismay of the local population. The plot integrates the neo-noir and buddy cop film genres with a science fiction theme, centering on a union between a veteran police investigator and an extraterrestrial; the first Newcomer detective. The duo probe a criminal underworld attempting to solve a homicide.

The Alien Nation: The Firstcomers 1991 mini-series continues the science-fiction saga of Alien Nation. This story steps back in time to deal with America’s involvement with aliens in the early 1940s. A reporter named Jack feels that any conspiracy is worth uncovering, so he illegally obtains top secret files that detail the government’s involvement with extraterrestrials. Jack was eventually hunted down and killed by agents seeking to retrieve the files. Before dying, however, Jack managed to pass the files to an alien “Newcomer” named Emily who then became a target herself. However, when the G-Men came get to Emily, they were thwarted by…Jack. Maybe he wasn’t killed after all…

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Iraq” Jack, a reporter investigating an alien landing related to Hangar 18, obtains a secret file and is mysteriously targeted for assassination. But when it looks like Jack has been murdered, Newcomer Emily Bronte ends up with the file. Will she be next on the list?

Next in issue #2, Fleeing a deadly assassin, Jack and Emily seek refuge with Jack’s old girlfriend. But when Emily’s husband gets shot by the same assassin, she and Jack decide it’s time to track down the source of the peril.

Next in issue #3, Jack and Emily have car problems that leave them stranded miles from any city. When they finally do make it to a city… it’s no refuge! Alien prejudice endangers them at every turn and in every corner. After one hostile situation after another them finally, surprisingly find the missing airbase… overrun by aliens.

Finally in issue #4, After their memories are wiped clean, Jack and Emily have no memory of being abducted by aliens. Meanwhile, and assassin is hot on their trail.
