Description

Animaniacs Issue #19: The Y Files                                 Comic
Featuring a “X-Files” parody story with FBI agents, Fox Mulder & Dana Scully.  Awesome!!
Editors: Robert Graff & Terri Cunningham
Cover by: Miran Kim

Warner Bros., best known for cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, introduced this comic series in 1995 in conjunction with a popular afternoon television show. Its stars are the Warner Brothers (and a Warner sister), also known as the Animaniacs. This trio of cartoon troublemakers is known for their zany, over-the-top antics and tendency to break the 4th wall.

Although the Animaniacs are aimed squarely at the pre-teen crowd, their occasional co-stars Pinky and the Brain have a more devilishly adult sensibility. Pinky is a punked-out goofball of a mouse, but his partner, the Brain has a definite goal for life: to take over the world. To that end, he puts his incredible brain power to work to launch scheme after scheme. He’s a megalomaniac, but sort of endearing in his own way.

And now, DC Comics presents “Animaniacs Issue #19: The Y Files”. Containing three short, but interconnecting stories, this comic serves as a parody of the ever so popular X-Files series. Featuring X-Files artists Miran Kim and Charles Ardlard, Dave King delivers another lovable entry in the Animaniacs franchise.

Animaniacs Issue #19 contains:

“The Y Files”  4 pages
Writer: Dave King
Artists: Charles Adlard & Neal Sternecky
Colorist: Jo Meugniot
Letterer: John Costanza

Agent Fox Mouldy and Agent Dana Scowly are wandering through foggy woods with flash lights looking for a crashed  “experimental plane”. Despite Scowly’s warnings, Mouldy wanders too far ahead and slips and falls, rolling down a hill. At the bottom of the hill, he finds a strange ship with a “WB” on the side. He walks up to the side and is knocked unconscious by the Animaniacs opening the door to their ship.

“Sheep!”   10 pages
Writer: Dave King
Artists: Omar Aranda & Scott McRae
Colorist: Jo Meugniot
Letterer: Teresa Davidson

The Warner Animaniacs fill in for the Y-Files agents to solve a case involving weird sheep in rural Ohio. They investigate a small town, questioning people as all sorts of weird occurrences happen around them. Their questioning and investigating leads them to a secret government base where they discover that some evil scientists are splicing sheep and rubber to make them bounce. One scientist holds the female Warner hostage, but she quickly escapes, steals his splicer machine, and splices the two scientists together, effectively disabling them. The case is solved and the police arrest the evil scientists.

“Little Green Mice”   10 pages
Writer: Dave King
Artist: Walter Carzon
Inker: Scott McRae
Colorist: Demetrius Bassoukos
Letterer: John Costanza

Believing himself to be the leader of the aliens abducting cheese, Brain decides to have himself and Pinky disguise themselves as Mouldy and Scowly. They go off on an adventure to find the aliens, ranging from a bus trip to getting lost in the woods. They are being pursued by government agents throughout their journey who are bent on making sure they don’t discover the secret. They eventually end up at a warehouse where they find loads of cheese. Brain is distracted by blinding lights shining through the ceiling window. They attempt to get abducted, but are unaware that it is a trick by the government agents who are in a helicopter overheard. The story concludes with them back in their cage. But then the story truly concludes when a confused Agent Mouldy wakes up to Scowly standing over him, the WB ship now gone and the past two stories being simply his dreams.
