In 1990, during a resurgence of interest in the series, Malibu Comics launched a new monthly black-and-white Planet of the Apes comic through its Adventure Comics studio. The debut issue sold 40,000, a record for black-and-white comics, leading to a successful run of 24 issues over two years. The comic’s success led Malibu to publish five four-issue spin-off miniseries: Ape City, Planet of the Apes: Urchak’s Folly, Alien Nation crossover Ape Nation, Planet of the Apes: Blood of the Apes, and Planet of the Apes: The Forbidden Zone. Malibu also published two one-shots: A Day on the Planet of the Apes and Planet prequel Planet of the Apes: Sins of the Fathers.

An amalgamation of Alien Nation and Planet of the Apes!
In the mini-series Ape Nation, a Newcomer slave ship accidentally hits a time curve and finds itself, where else, on the planet of the apes. A Tenctonese ship lands on the Ape Planet and alliances are formed endangering Ape City. Be there when the worlds of Planet of the Apes and Alien Nation collide in one deadly full color title with Ape Nation!

Story/Spoilers
Only in the Limited Collector’s Edition of issue #1, “Twice Upon a Time”, Set-up story giving a glimpse into what life is like on both the world of Planet of the Apes and the world of Alien Nation. Special Limited Numbered Edition of 8,000 Produced Exclusively for Diamond Comics Distributors. Each issue individually numbered. (see 2nd scan)

In issue #1, “Plans”, A small band of travelers brings news to Ape City – an alien space craft has landed beyond the Forbidden Zone. Five volunteers prepare for the dangerous journey unaware that the Tenctonese aliens have forged an evil bond with General Ollo, the renegade gorilla, and Simon, the ape-slaying human.

Next in issue #2, “Pasts”, the Alien Tenctonese landed on the planet’s surface. Danada The Destroyer, leader of the Tenctonese, formed a deadly alliance with General Ollo and Simon the Slaughterer. Meanwhile, the Council decided to send a small party to investigate the Alien Landing. Heston, chosen by Alexander himself to lead the expedition, picked Packer, Winnipeg of the Lightfeet, Roto (the strongest Ape of all, according to him), and Bartholomew, Jacob’s nephew. What they found was trouble. What they’re preparing for is a battle to the death.

Next in issue #3, “Pawns”, United by General Ollo and Danada, an army of militant Gorillas and angry Aliens is converging on the unsuspecting Ape City. Meanwhile, Heston has been captured and imprisoned with Caan, the former leader of the Tenctonese,

Finally in issue #4, “Pains”, Heston and Caan made good their escape from their Tenctonese and Gorilla captors. Caan, Roto and Simon (The back-stabbin’ human that talks like an ape!) have teamed up to stem the advancing Ape/Alien army. Meanwhile, poor Bart has shuffled off to Ape City in search of help and Heston’s made a startling discovery about Caan’s sister, Elysa.
