Back to Mysterious Island is a sequel to the Jules Verne novel, The Mysterious Island. More precisely, it’s based on Cy Endfield’s 1961 film, Mysterious Island, made famous by the stop-motion animated effects by Ray Harryhausen. Now continuing the classic tale, this Ray Harryhausen Signature Series story goes back to the land that Jules Verne created. Mysterious Island has risen again, this time in 2008 and the infamous Captain Nemo is back to command a new set of monsters!

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Two zoologists who’ve been hired to survey the day-to-day life of penguins on a rogue iceberg end up finding out their job is a lot more complicated than they originally expected. The entire primary cast is original, although Landis created a plot device to fit in a slew of Harryhausen monsters that a lot of people will probably be happy to see. The group later discovers that their secret helper is the reclusive Captain Nemo.

Next in issue #2, New, classic monsters are seen on the island. Captain Grastle actually does more damage than the wasp as he attempts to swat it with crazed shots from his AK-47. He finally triggers the engine and, to everybody’s surprise, sends them grinding up onto the beach of the theretofore invisible Mysterious Island!

Next in issue #3, The epic adventure from Ray Harryhausen and Jules Verne continues! The team becomes separated on the bizarre Mysterious Island as they try to determine what it is they are dealing with. After being attacked by numerous fantastical creatures, they realize they must become proactive in their survival, setting the stage for the battle of a lifetime!

Finally in issue #4, The epic story concludes as the battle for control over Mysterious Island. The Cyclops tribe fights alongside the humans against the Ymir! Don’t miss this exciting conclusion if Ray Harryhausen and Jules Verne’s sequel to the classic film.
