Battle Beyond the Stars is a 1980 American space opera film produced by Roger Corman, directed by Jimmy T. Murakami, and starring Richard Thomas, Robert Vaughn, George Peppard, John Saxon, Sybil Danning and Darlanne Fluegel. The movie featured a science fiction story of a young farmer that sets out to recruit mercenaries to defend his peaceful planet, which is under threat of invasion by the evil tyrant Sador and his armada of aggressors. The space warriors battle to save the peaceful planet from a ruthless conqueror who promises to give his laser-toting mutant followers eternal life – by grafting victims’ organs and limbs on to their aged bodies. It is considered a science fiction cult classic.

Now, Bluewater Productions, presents a prequel comic book story, set 30 years before the Roger Corman’s Battle Beyond the Stars 1980 film. Battle Amongst the Stars is a four-part miniseries that tells the story of how Zed, the old man played by Jeff Corey in BBTS, began his adventures from the planet Akir with Nell. It also has the characters of Dr. Hephaestus and Sador of the Malmori.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Thirty years before Battle Beyond the Stars, Zed of Akir boards an alien space craft and is drawn into an open galaxy unknown to him. There he finds himself in a race against time to stop a race called the Oztems from being wiped out by the ruthless Remlar of the Malmori, and his 1st lieutenant, Sador.

Next in issue #2, On the planet Olphen, a small group of alien defenders are preparing its people for the possible attack by the Malmori as they seek their reproductive technology. Meanwhile Zed and Corin are captured by Remlar, and he charges Sador to get the location of the Olphen planet from them, by any means necessary.

Next in issue #3, After escaping from the Malmori warship, Zed and Nell must now cross the deadly Lambda Zone, avoiding the pirates known as The Jackers who reside there. Meanwhile at Oztem, preparations begin for the final battle for possession of the Oztems’ replication technology. Some will live. And some will die.

Finally in issue #4, The battle concludes! The Malmori press their assault and get closer to their target, the Oztem replication technology. Zed and the resistance forces face their greatest choices. Are they willing to lay down their lives to stop Remlar and his forces? Who will survive at the end to tell the tale?
