Mix a lot of pulp sword & sorcery with a little steamy soap opera, and you’ve got this black-comedy saga of ferocious female Vikings slashing their way across the battle-scarred landscape of Dark Ages Europe in pursuit of action, money and sex.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Mederus No More”, It’s the 8th century A.D.. The Northern tribesman who’ve long been looting European peasants have found the can make even more money hiring themselves out as mercenaries to the great empires of the East. It’s a Man’s World – but that doesn’t discourage a small band of female warriors from a tribe where women are trained to fight. From trying their luck. The is their story. Hrotha, Skold, Freya, Sigga, Bruna!

Next in issue #2, ”How the Other Half Lives”, Journeying towards the Kingdom of Birzenia, where they hope to find work as mercenaries. A band of fearless Female Warriors finds the border town of Medereus, looted and burned by the Nomadic Tenguts. With the Birzenian soldiers who were supposed to have been guarding it nowhere in sight. They’re quickly confronted by the returning Imperial Garrison, who fled the town rather than fight. Through a clever ruse, the women defeat them and their commander, Alexis – Birzenia’s well-meaning, but weak Crown Prince. When the dust settles, Hrotha assures Alexis they’re only looking for work – And the Prince, over the objections of his co-commander IVold, escorts them back to the capital for an audience with his father, The Emperor…

Next in issue #3, “My Enemy’s Enemy”, Arriving in Birzenia, Hrotha’s band is hired to assist Crown Prince Alexis, who is widely regarded as incompetent. Hrotha whips his troops into shape, and also starts an affair with the Prince. Meanwhile, after Sigga and Bruna quarrel, Sigga tries to bully Skold into making her a love charm. Terrified, Skold quits the company just as Alexis is assigned to Cappodochia to put down a minor revolt. After her comrades leave with the troops, Skold is contacted by the ghost of a priest of the god Nolo Goth. In a vision, she sees the monstrous creature in a pit below the palace, where it’s being fed a human sacrifice by mercenary guard captain IVold and another priest. Overhearing their discussion, Skold realizes that IVold, as part of a plan to seize the throne, has in fact sent Alexis and Hrotha into an ambush by an overwhelming Tengut force. While she sets about informing Hrotha, Freya, who’s also been left behind after criticizing her mother’s affair, encounters IVold at a tavern, where, to her surprise, he makes some not-unwelcome advances.

Finally in issue #4, “The Fiery Finish!”, Magically tipped off by Skold, Hrotha and Prince Alexis thwart an ambush by an over-whelming Tengut force. Meanwhile, Freya wakes up after her one-night stand with IVold to find him about to sacrifice her to Nolo Goth. When the Emperor bursts in, he’s eaten instead, but IVold grabs the ring that controls the god and gets away. Freya pursues him, but both are captured by agents of Tengut Khan Asa Ghobi, who blame IVold for their defeat. In the Tengut camp, Ivold is killed, but Freya manages to kill the Khan. Before she gets away, she finds the magic ring in his tent. Meanwhile, The Prince takes advantage of the Emperor’s death to seize power for herself. She arranges for Alexis’ forces to be arrested on their way back to Birzenia and gets ready to celebrate her coronation by burning them to death in the amphitheater. Sigga, however escapes arriving at Skolds to claim her love charm. She meets Freya, after Freya gives Skold the ring. They set off to free the prisoners, while Skold has another encounter with the spectral Uroborus, who reveals himself to be Nolo Goth.
