For two long months of sweltering summer the British hacked their way inland, grinding themselves against the foe in the close-in, claustrophobic woods and hedgerows of the bocage country. Waiting for them, they found mines and tank traps, artillery and assault guns, hundreds of the ever-lethal Panzers; all orchestrated to the tearing calico rip of the thousand rounds-per-minute Spandaus.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Sugar, Sugar”, After D-Day came the battle for Normandy, when largely untried Allied soldiers met the seasoned veterans of the German army. As Panzer units and SS troops turn the French countryside into a killing ground, a lone British tank crew struggle to rejoin their squadron. Cut off behind enemy lines, their only hope lies in their fearsome commander, Corporal Stiles- but no one in the crew can stand him, and Stiles isn’t too fond of them either. And there are Tigers lurking in the undergrowth…

Next in issue #2, “Yeomen of England”, The death ride of the British armored divisions continues as German resistance intensifies, littering the Normandy countryside with smashed tanks and bloody bodies. Meanwhile, Corporal Stiles and his crew continue their quest to rejoin their unit- assuming there’s a unit left to rejoin. Worse still, mutiny begins to rear its head- at the worst possible time, with hungry Tigers on the prowl…

Finally in issue #3, “To the Green Fields Beyond”, A narrow escape brings the Tankies a brief respite, but it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire as they run into their arch-nemesis: Germany’s deadly Tiger tank. Can David overcome this particular Goliath? Can the British forces fight their way out of the slaughterhouse Normandy has become? And who will kill the big-mouthed Robbo first the enemy, or Stiles, his own commander? The last Battlefields story comes to it s deadly conclusion, in part three of The Tankies.
