WildStorm celebrates Battler Britton’s 50th anniversary with this rollicking 5 – issue mini-series from the hallowed halls of IPC, the legendary home of England’s greatest comics creations! As the Nazis rain terror throughout Europe, Allied forces are on the run in North Africa. It’s October 1942 and Rommel’s Panzers are unrelenting in their pursuit. Wing Commander Robert “Battler” Britton of the RAF and his squadron have been dispatched to an American airstrip to spearhead a joint action against Hitler’s war machine. Now they must survive taunts, threats, and assaults… and that’s just from the Yanks!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Battler Britton and his mates have some cross words for the new Yank pilots assigned to them. When the Americans go their own way on a mission and leave Battler and his men exposed, tempers flare and blows are almost thrown.
Next in issue #2, Tempers flare in the wake of repeated clashes between the Yanks and their newly arrived Brit Associates. As Battler tries to create a new camaraderie, both camps display heroism in the face of death, and for one of their number, it’s too close a call!
Next in issue #3, The deep freeze separating British and American forces finally starts to thaw after a selfless act of heroism, but can they all come together as a single unit? Later, during a mission that encounters unexpected opposition, help comes from a most unexpected front.
Next in issue #4, Wing Commander Britton and Lt. Gilhooley are heavily outnumbered by Nazi fighters. Deep behind enemy lines without rations or a way home other than their feet, the two must use wits and cunning to survive. But will that be enough to sustain them after the lethal discovery they make?
Finally in issue #5, The smashing conclusion to the epic battle tale! Deep behind enemy lines, Battler and Gilhooley make a terrifying discovery: a huge encampment of Panzer Tanks. Now they must somehow get word to their squadron and cause as much damage as possible without being captured or killed!
Issue # 5 features wrap-a-round painted cover art by Garry Leach. (see the 12th scan) Very Cool!!
