Battlestar Galactica is an American science fiction franchise created by Glen A. Larson. The franchise began with the original television series in 1978. Battlestar Galactica was produced in the wake of the success of the 1977 film Star Wars. It was later followed by a short-run sequel series (Galactica 1980), a line of book adaptations, original novels, comic books, a board game, video games, and other re-imagined versions of Battlestar Galactica television series from 2003 even to recently.
In a distant part of the universe, a human civilization has extended to a group of planets known as the Twelve Colonies, to which they have migrated from their ancestral homeworld of Kobol. The Twelve Colonies have been engaged in a lengthy war with a cybernetic race known as the Cylons, whose goal is the extermination of the human race. The Cylons offer peace to the humans, which proves to be a ruse. With the aid of a human named Baltar, the Cylons carry out a massive attack on the Twelve Colonies and on the Colonial Fleet of starships that protect them. These attacks devastate the Colonial Fleet, lay waste to the Colonies, and virtually destroy their populations. Scattered survivors flee into outer space aboard a ragtag array of available spaceships. Of the entire Colonial battle fleet, only the Battlestar Galactica, a gigantic battleship and spacecraft carrier, appears to have survived the Cylon attack. Under the leadership of Commander Adama, the Galactica and the pilots of “Viper fighters” lead a fugitive fleet of survivors in search of the fabled thirteenth colony known as Earth.
This Realm Press series picks up immediately after the original television series’ final episode, in an attempt to present what they called “Season Two” of the original show. The first 8 pages of the fantastic first issue feature sequences based from the final episode of the original Battlestar Galactica series that ran from 1978 to 1979. “The Hand of God” was telecast on April 29, 1979. An episode written by Donald Bellisario.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1A & 1B, “The Law of Volahd”, Immediately following the events of “The Hand of God”, the Fleet finds itself in need of vital fuel and weapons supplies, happening upon a mineral-rich planet whose inhabitants, the Acmarans, claim that they are at peace, administered by a god they call Volahd.
Features the original cover edition and the variant cover edition. Awesome!!!
Next in issue #2, “The Law of Volahd – Part 2”, With the Acmarans sudden edict that the newly welcomed Warriors are evil, Apollo, Sheba, Starbuck and Boomer are forced to find a way out of Salis and off the planet. Meanwhile, Galactica discovers the origin and owner of the unidentified signal, much to their dismay.
Next in issue #3B, “Prison of Souls”, As the Fleet approaches a group of derelict alien ships, Adama experiences visions of the future that spell doom for the rag-tag, fugitive fleet.
Next in issue #4, “Prison of Souls – Part 2”, The Somnians have been let loose upon the galaxy and Commander Adama alone must stop them.
Finally in issue #5, “Prison of Souls – Part 3”, It’s all out battle as Humans clash with Cylons… and malevolent aliens in this epic conclusion. Can Commander Adama and the crew of the Battlestar Galactica prevail or will the human race be vanquished once and for all?
