Battlestar Galactica is an American science fiction franchise created by Glen A. Larson. The franchise began with the original television series in 1978. Battlestar Galactica was produced in the wake of the success of the 1977 film Star Wars. It was later followed by a short-run sequel series (Galactica 1980), a line of book adaptations, original novels, comic books, a board game, video games, and other re-imagined versions of Battlestar Galactica television series from 2003 even to recently.
In a distant part of the universe, a human civilization has extended to a group of planets known as the Twelve Colonies, to which they have migrated from their ancestral homeworld of Kobol. The Twelve Colonies have been engaged in a lengthy war with a cybernetic race known as the Cylons, whose goal is the extermination of the human race. The Cylons offer peace to the humans, which proves to be a ruse. With the aid of a human named Baltar, the Cylons carry out a massive attack on the Twelve Colonies and on the Colonial Fleet of starships that protect them. These attacks devastate the Colonial Fleet, lay waste to the Colonies, and virtually destroy their populations. Scattered survivors flee into outer space aboard a ragtag array of available spaceships. Of the entire Colonial battle fleet, only the Battlestar Galactica, a gigantic battleship and spacecraft carrier, appears to have survived the Cylon attack. Under the leadership of Commander Adama, the Galactica and the pilots of “Viper fighters” lead a fugitive fleet of survivors in search of the fabled thirteenth colony known as Earth.
Now, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to present the continued journey of the Battlestar Galactica. The Galactica’s search for sanctuary takes them beyond the limits of known reality and into a cosmic mystery where the hunters become the hunted, ruin and despair dot the skies, and Adama goes where friend and family can’t follow.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, ”In the Beginning”, The longstanding truce between the 12 colonies that comprise humanity and the cylons, the race of robots, has fallen. The Cylons have devastated the colonial fleet and ravaged the colonies, all but completely exterminating their enemies. Rescuing all they can, the remnants of humanity have fled. Led by the Battlestar Galactica and pursued by a relentless foe, they seek the fabled 13th colony, which is said to have settled on the distant planet of Earth.
Next in issue #2, “Snake in the Garden”, The last remnants of humanity are on the run, pursued by the robotic cylons who seek mankind’s extermination. Captured by the pull of a black hole, the Galactica and its fleet emerged in a heretofore unexplored region of space. With Adama in a coma, Starbuck and Apollo investigated a nearby planet in hopes of finding where they were and how to get home. Unbeknownst to them, Adama found himself back in time, when the treaty with the Cylons first fell, while in the present, the Cylons also traveled through the black hole.
Next in issue #3, ”We are Legion”, Having survived their journey through a black hole, Starbuck and Apollo explored a mysterious planet surrounded by dead starships. They soon encountered Baltar, no longer stranded in solitude, but living among the natives, Adama, still experiencing the tragic events of the past in his coma, discovered Iblis was the architect behind their current situation. Meanwhile, The Galactica prepared to take on the Cylons, only to have them seek sanctuary from a deadly, new threat to them all.
Next in issue #4, ”Infamous”, After landing upon a mysterious planet surrounded by a ring of dead starships, the crew of the Galactica was surprised to be reunited with Baltar. Shortly thereafter, they made a second, more sinister discovery: a group of nightmarish human-cyclon hybrids. With their leader Adama in a coma and trapped in deadly psychic battle with the nefarious Count Iblis, and with their ships under attack from the overwhelming presence of these new foes, the human fleet, in order to survive, will have to form an uneasy alliance with the Cylon forces that were previously pursuing them…
Finally in issue #5, ”Infamous”, The combined forces of the Colonial Warriors and the Cylon Raiders fend off Count Iblis’ fiendish armada. But Iblis is determined to have his vengeance against the enigmatic Seraphs, even if he has to sacrifice every living soul on the fleet to do it! As the battle reaches its epic conclusion, the Galactica embarks in a surprising new direction!
