Ever since Bram Stoker, the vampire known as Dracula has been haunting the world’s dreams. The subject of countless books, movies, and comics, it would seem that there would be little you could add to his legend. Still, Apple Comics does just that in Blood of Dracula.
The series runs as a serial anthology, featuring three stories in each issue. In them we see Dracula throughout the ages: hunting for blood in his native land or stalking the streets of America. In one story set in the 1930s, he comes across a moonshiner who is actually a werewolf, and who has been creating other werewolves by putting filings from his teeth into the libations he distributes. The wildest concept is Dracula in 2199, where the Lord of the Vampires awakens after a long sleep to find himself in a world ruled by cold, hard science and populated by advanced robots. That world has forgotten the mystical —but Dracula is determined to show them fear!
Issue #15 contains a two-sided record containing Blood of Dracula music. Composed and produced by none other than Mark Wheatley.
Track list:
Side one: First Night
Side two: Introduction in Evening & Running with the Wolves
Additionally, Issue #15 also contains a cutout Dracula/Vampire mask located on the inside of the back cover.
Writer: Rickey Shanklin
Artists: Neil Yokes & Mike McCarthy
Inker: Mark Wheatley
Letterer: Kathryn Mayer
Shortly after the middle of the 19th Century, Dracula stalks his homeland. Aisa Burkholdt, out for the evening with young Fritz Goehling, falls prey to the Count’s unquenchable thirst. Her father, who virtually runs the town thorough manipulations and intimidation of local business, flew into a rage pong hearing the news. Seeking vengeance, Herr Burkholdt had Fritz charged with Aisa’s murder…

In a land between life and death, Dracula interacts with the dreams and fears of the living. Following his demise at the hands of Quincey and Harker, Dracula finds himself wandering alone down the path of the dead. Confronted by the specters of his countless victims, he is denied the eternal peace which awaits them. Finally, Dracula realizes the awful truth of his curse: to drift forever, neither dead nor alive, along the twilight path of lifedeath…

“Dracula 2199”
Writer: Rickey Shanklin
Artist: Damon Willis
Inker: Bob Downs
Letterer: Kathryn Mayer
The last remaining disciple of Dracula’s legend manages to resurrect the Lord of the Vampires. Awake after three centuries, Dracula finds himself in a world ruled by science – and devoid of religion. Enraged by the waste of the countless people who have been sacrificed in clumsy attempts to revive him, Dracula took the life of the only person who could have told him something of the new world he now inhabits…
