On the planet Cheelit, Darth Vader accepts an invitation to a game of Firepath from the ruler Dhol. During the match the Dark Lord reveals he was also challenged by the Guild of Vindicators to another game of wits, believing they wish to kill him. Meanwhile, outside the Hive Palace, two stormtroopers stand guard against any trouble. Clat the Shamer appears from the night startling the two troopers. Before either of the troopers can fire at the mysterious shape, Clat used his powers as an empath to drive first one trooper, and then the other insane with the guilt of their past deeds. After dealing with the troopers, Clat moves into the palace, interrupting the game of Firepath to confront Vader. While trying to use his empathic powers on the Sith, the Vindicator moves onto the Firepath game board. Believing he had influenced his mind, Clat is surprised when Vader continues to call out a turn in his game. When he does so, the fire meant to consume the game piece burns him instead. After the death of his would-be assassin, Vader admits to knowing that Dhol assisted the Vindicators in luring him to the planet. Vader then executes one last move, burning Dhol to death as well.

“Dark Knight’s Devilry”

Artist: Alan Davis
Colorist: Matt Webb
Letterer: Jenny O’Connor

On the planet Jerne, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and Leia Organa are being transported to an Imperial base, after being captured by Captain Ryko Vant. The transport comes under attack from native guerrilla fighters who had set-up an ambush by hiding under the sand of the planet. Distracted, the troopers are attacked by their captives, and are quickly defeated. All troopers aboard the transport are killed, with the exception of Vant, who uses a jetpack to escape the scene. As he is departing, the Captain aims and fires at Organa, who is pushed aside by Luke, while R2 is hit by the shot. The rebels then find themselves prisoners again, this time to the native fighters, who take them to their base.

“The Flight of the Falcon”

“Blind Fury!”
Writer: Alan Moore
Artist: John Stokes
Colorist: James R. Sinclair
Letterer: John Aldrich

A young Luke Skywalker trains his lightsaber skills against a remote while blindfolded, with his X-Wing on automatic pilot. Suddenly, he receives a distress transmission from a woman, only hearing the words ‘Garn’ and ‘tower’ before the signal degenerates into static. When he reaches Garn, it appears a bleak world, and he recalls the terror in the woman’s voice. Realizing that he has heard of Garn before but not remembering what it was, Luke lands on the planet and observes the tower jutting from the landscape. As Luke enters the tower, the door closes behind him and he is attacked by beasts from the darkness. Despite having him at their mercy, the beasts retreat and allow the shaken Luke to venture deeper into the tower. A man’s voice then welcomes him to ‘the halls of his damnation’. Luke soon discovers soul-snares containing the life forces of previous victims, before coming upon the skeletal remains of Jedi Knights in armor. The man speaks again, claiming to be ‘the vengeful remains of Rur, High Shaman of the Terrible Glare’. However, Luke remembers that Rur’s order was supposed to have been eradicated by the Jedi thousands of years ago, as told to him by Ben Kenobi. Luke finds Rur’s form encased in a transparent pyramidal structure, where he explains that his body is no more and that his mind is encoded and preserved within the ‘devices of knowing’ before him. His sensors had detected Luke because of his lightsaber use, and had lured him to Garn with the false distress call, as he had done to other Jedi before him. Because Rur had been in the computer for so long, he had lost track of time, believing that the war was only months ago. Understanding the danger he is in, Luke tells Rur that there are no Jedi anymore and that he got his lightsaber from the last one. Thinking Luke is lying, Rur checks his sensor but finds that Luke’s pulse has indeed stayed calm. Realizing his vengeance is in vain, he destroys the labyrinth. While watching the flames for a long time, Luke thinks of hatred and of obsession and blindness. That of Rur and that of his own.

C-3PO and R2-D2 pose as inert droids and are taken by a junk hauler to Ronyards where countless broken or malfunctioning droids die. They encounter Fivelines, a droid with many disciples that believe Ronyards to be a god. Threepio warns Fivelines that the Empire is planning to strip Ronyards of its metal and use it for their own purposes. Fivelines unfortunately does not listen and is destroyed when an Imperial Star Destroyer arrives. The droids’ “God” then destroy the scout group of stormtroopers and eventually the Star Destroyer itself. The Millennium Falcon and Childermoss’s ship were then swallowed up by an unidentified ship, and their crews awoke to find themselves imprisoned by a religious cult, the Five, that focuses on pain and cruelty. Childermoss and his crew are killed when they draw blasters. The cult spared Han, Leia, and Chewbacca’s lives, but Chewbacca was transported to a Menagerie and Leia was psychologically attacked by Suzal, an elderly member of the Five. Chewbacca broke out of the Menagerie and unleashed Wutzek, a strange force captured by the Five centuries ago. Wutzek then kills all of the Five, allowing the Millennium Falcon and its crew to escape.

Tilotny decides to play with them, and kills one stormtrooper by turning him into a diamond. After that she turns Leia’s heart into a diamond too and mixes the remaining stormtroopers together. After being tired from playing, Tilotny leaves the spirit called Splendid Ap to restore everything to normal.
