Description

Clive Barker: Illustrator                                                             Hardcover w/ Slipcase
Signed & Numbered – Limited to 200
Writer: Fred Burke
Artist: Clive Barker
Introduction by: Stephen Bissette

Clive Barker is an English novelist, playwright, author, film director, and visual artist who came to prominence in the mid-1980s with a series of short stories, the Books of Blood, which established him as a leading horror writer. He has since written many novels and other works. His fiction has been adapted into films, notably the Hellraiser series, the first installment of which he also wrote and directed, and the Candyman series. He was also an executive producer of the film Gods and Monsters, which won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Additionally, Clive Barker’s paintings and illustrations have been shown in galleries in the United States and have appeared in his books. He has also created characters and series for comic books, and some of his more popular horror stories have been featured in ongoing comics series.

His nightmare visions have captivated millions of readers and film goers. Now this lavish rare, limited hardcover edition with matching slipcase brings us closer still to the core of Clive Barker’s macabre imagination. Before he records a word on paper, or commits an idea to film, Barker employs brush and ink, chalk and marker, to conjure the darkest secrets of his deep subconscious. The pages of this volume are haunted by images that led Barker to his greatest successes; Hellraiser, Weaveworld, The Damnation Game, The Books of Blood, and Cabal. And by those which he will craft many more. Dare you to look within?

This rare, limited hardcover with slipcase presents a unique collection of British author, Clive Barker’s various artworks; of ink sketches and some full-color paintings, accompanied with insightful and interesting text. It also contains a lengthy interview with Barker, in which he talks about the various aspects of his work. As with his fiction, his artwork is concerned with mythology, monstrous figures, the grotesque, human sexuality, and secret identities. He also discusses his influences, which range from Jean Cocteau, Goya and William Blake to various Disney movies. It gets the closest to Clive Barker’s actual thought process in a way none of his more exhaustive art books do. This is the first volume of 2 books that features an extensive collection of Clive Barker’s artworks. If you are a fan of Clive Barker’s work and career, then this amazing hardcover is Highly Recommended for you.
