Description

Creepy #101                                              Magazine
Featuring the Jaws of Death Special Issue. Awesome!
Cover by: Richard Corben

When the Comics Code brought down EC comics in the mid-1950s, fans of horror comics faced the prospect of substandard, watered-down fare instead of their steady diet of well-illustrated blood and gore. James Warren answered their prayers in 1965 with Creepy, a deluxe black-and-white magazine (thus not subject to the Code) offering chilling tales in the EC tradition, told by the master artists and writers from the classic days – Frank Frazetta, Wally Wood, Reed Crandall, Al Williamson, and John Severin, plus Alex Toth, Neal Adams, and Bernie Wrightson. Creepy was an anthology title, with four or five stories per issue hosted by the ghoulish “Uncle Creepy.” Original editor Archie Goodwin made Creepy and its companion, Eerie, a showcase of storytelling talent through the first several years. After Goodwin’s departure, Creepy slipped a bit, but continued to be a unique and influential publication into the 1980s.

Now Warren Publishing presents, Creepy #101 Special Issue: Jaws of Death! Featuring beautiful “Shark Terror” cover art by Richard Corben. With “shark stories” reminiscent of 1977’s Jaws, it’s safe to say that Creepy in 1978 was feeding the “Shark/Jaws” craze at that time. Bruce Jones along with Richard Corben and Leo Duranona reminds us again of the dangers of going back into the waters. All presented in Glorious Black & White… with exception of the story “Water Babies” which is presented in color.

Creepy #101 contains:

“Dear Uncle Creepy”   Page 4

Your Uncle Creepy (aren’t I a dear?) is now 101 issues old. For this one I thought we’d take a big dip in the big deep! Keep those cards and letters coming! Because you love your Uncle!
——————————————————————————–

Brock and Peggy go sailing, but their yacht capsizes and leaves them drifting in the Bermuda Triangle. Fate sees fit to take Peggy to its bosom while Brock fights off sea gulls and marauding sharks, but not trauma!
——————————————————————————–

“In Deep II”   Page 15
Writer: Bruce Jones

A problem with salt water is a slight tendency to produce sharking experiences. Ouch! A shark in the Bermuda Triangle had the munchies and Brock lost his wife. He has been on the warpath ever since to get revenge.
