Daredevil: Volume 12 – Decalogue                             Trade Paperback
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Alex Maleev
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer: Virtual Caligraphy’s Cory Petit

Cover by: Alex Maleev

A bold new direction sees Daredevil as an urban legend seen through the eyes of those telling their stories about encounters with The Man without Fear.

How much of an impact did Daredevil truly make when he declared himself the Kingpin of Hell’s Kitchen? The best way to find out is through the citizens. In Decalogue, Brian Michael Bendis does just that. Daredevil doesn’t even feature too prominently in this volume. He’s more of an urban legend here. The story mostly takes place in the basement of a church, where several of the neighborhood’s residents have come to share stories about how much has really changed since Daredevil became Kingpin. Not all of it is good, either. It gives a real human side to the war that Daredevil wages on crime. Even though everything Daredevil does is to protect his people, not everyone sees it that way. Only a writer like Bendis could take something so mundane as a bunch of talking heads, and make it so completely riveting. A Daredevil must-read!

Story/Spoilers
In part #1, Exactly what happened during Daredevil’s year-long reign as the new Kingpin? His historic cleaning of Hell’s Kitchen will finally be revealed in bloody detail. Framed around the Ten Commandments, this epic story-arc is like nothing you’ve seen before!

A support group meets in the basement of a church to discuss how DD has changed their lives and a former junkie prostitute tells how she witnessed DD proclaim himself the new Kingpin and then stop Bullet and her boyfriend from taking over.

Next in part #2, Exactly how much was Matt Murdock willing to sacrifice in his obsession to clean up Hell’s Kitchen? And what does it have to do with a painful family legacy? The next episode exploring Daredevil’s year-long reign as the new Kingpin.

The DD support group continues its discussion and one of the members tells of failing to honor his father’s wish from prison, a wish that would have ultimately led to the death of Foggy Nelson.

Next in part #3, A new costumed foe takes to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. Who is he and what will his effect on Daredevil’s new status quo be? Did someone say “new super-villian?” Oh, yes. From the writer of New Avengers, it’s the very, very dark side of the Marvel Universe.

The DD support group continues and the wife of a super-powered serial killer tells how DD tracked down her husband but refused to let him fall to his death; The killer’s last intended victim whom DD saved turns out to be a member of the group and doesn’t take kindly to the story of a troubled man plagued by demons.

Next in part #4, The secrets of Matt Murdock’s clandestine marriage to Milla are revealed at last! The details of Daredevil’s year as Kingpin continues in this special love story.

The DD support group continues with the tale of one of Milla Donovan’s friends who went to her wedding with Matt Murdock and whose daughter later killed herself after surviving a bank robbery by the Jester; The goading and mysterious member of the group promises there are deep dark secrets in all of these tales and points out that Matt Murdock is there in the group with them; And he is.

Finally in part #5, Matt Murdock invades the DD support group to confront the Demon that had possessed the Jester and interfered with so many lives after which he tries to explain to the group why he does the things he does; For the first time, Matt Murdock publicly admits to outsiders that he is DD.
