Daredevil is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Daredevil was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with an unspecified amount of input from Jack Kirby. The character first appeared in Daredevil #1 (April 1964). Writer/artist Frank Miller’s influential tenure on the title in the early 1980s cemented the character as a popular and influential part of the Marvel Universe. Daredevil is commonly known by such epithets as “Hornhead”, “The Man Without Fear” and “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen”.
Frank Miller (born January 27, 1957) is an American comic book writer, penciller and inker, novelist, screenwriter, film director, and producer known for his comic book stories and graphic novels such as his run on Daredevil and subsequent Daredevil: Born Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Sin City, and 300.
The first of three volumes collecting and documenting the transformation of the Daredevil persona by Frank Miller. Volume I includes Frank Miller’s very first Daredevil story. Limited to only 2500 copies, this book features a sequentially numbered signature page with new art by Miller, as well as Smyth-sewn binding, full-color dust jacket, illustrated end pages and all of the features you’ve come to expect from a Graphitti Designs hardcover book.
During a time when sales were at an all-time low for Marvel’s Daredevil, creative reins were entrusted over to a young writer/artist named Frank Miller. With cancellation hanging over the head of this long-running title, Frank Miller revitalized the series with a fresh look and darker tone that borrowed from past crime fiction and classic film noir leading to an unprecedented increase to the current place of Daredevil at the top of the sales charts. The stories in this volume feature unforgettable characters like the Kingpin, the mammoth king of the New York Underworld; Bullseye, the deranged but deadly assassin; Elektra, the woman Daredevil loves but is forced to oppose; and, of course, Daredevil himself, blind as justice, he is an attorney by day and an urban vigilante by night. Also introduced in this collection is the mysterious ninja brotherhood, The Hand, the group that will ultimately cause Elektra’s untimely demise. The centerpiece of these groundbreaking tales is the tragic saga of Elektra, the shy Greek coed who was transformed into a vengeance-filled assassin that our hero Matt Murdock would eventually be forced to fight. A sweeping epic of love and betrayal, these stories are dark and grim, yet retain a human center of love and redemption.
