Dark Horse Presents is an anthology series, each issue collecting several new short stories. Some stories are one shots while many span several issues.
Marvel has Marvel Comics Presents; DC had DC Comics Presents; and… Dark Horse Comics has…well, you can guess. Dark Horse Presents isn’t just a clone of the big two’s try-out books. For one, it’s published in a hefty black-and-white format, packing two or three times as many stories into each issue as any of its competitors. Also, the range of stories is, well, frankly amazing! A single issue may start with a terrible spoof of Dark Horse itself, move on to a gritty true-crime drama such as Sin City, switch over to a fairy tale adapted from Oscar Wilde, cut loose with a Aliens tale, then return to part two of the spoof. Unbelievable! Good Stuff!!
Dark Horse Presents #36 features, The most eagerly-awaited storyline that both Aliens fans and Predator fans have dreamt of since seeing both movies. And it begins in this issue of Dark Horse Presents! They are the galaxy’s most deadly alien races; now, the time has come for them to meet at last! It’s the Aliens and Predator together in one story! The confrontation of the century brought to you by Randy Stradley and film designer (The Abyss and Robocop II) Phillip Norwood! Followed by the further “sword and sorcery” adventures of Delia and Celia by Gary Davis! Plus, Guinan and Anina Bennet continue the story of The Heartbreakers – beautiful and deadly clones!
Dark Horse Presents #36 contains:
“Aliens vs. Predator” 9 pages
Writer: Randy Stradley
Artist: Phil Norwood
Inker: Karl Story
Letterer: Pat Brosseau
Editor: Randy Stradley
It is notable as being the birthplace of the the Alien vs. Predator franchise – it contains the final installment of the original three-part Aliens vs. Predator short story, in which the two titular creatures finally come face to face. The story then continues in the full-color comic miniseries from Dark Horse Comics. Additionally, as well as including the first ever comic book meet-up of the Alien and Predator creatures, Dark Horse Presents #36 also featured the first piece of Aliens vs. Predator cover artwork, by artist Chris Warner, and was the first piece of official media to carry the title Aliens vs. Predator.
