Description

Dark Horse Presents #42 & 43                                              Comics Lot
Featuring, Aliens, Kings in Disguise, The Argosy, The Dawn of Angst, & Yakub and the Vulture.
Covers by: Paul Guinan

Dark Horse Presents is an anthology series, each issue collecting several new short stories. Some stories are one-shots while many span several issues.

Marvel has Marvel Comics Presents; DC had DC Comics Presents; and… Dark Horse Comics has…well, you can guess. Dark Horse Presents isn’t just a clone of the big two’s try-out books. For one, it’s published in a hefty black-and-white format, packing two or three times as many stories into each issue as any of its competitors. Also, the range of stories is, well, frankly amazing! A single issue may start with a terrible spoof of Dark Horse itself, move on to a gritty true-crime drama such as Sin City, switch over to a fairy tale adapted from Oscar Wilde, cut loose with a Aliens tale, then return to part two of the spoof. Unbelievable! Good Stuff!!

Dark Horse Presents #42 & 43 features, Aliens: Advent/Terminus a two-part story that is noteworthy for being the first Aliens comics story to shift the focus away from existing movie characters. Thus, in some ways, it can be considered the first true expansion of the Alien franchise beyond the films. It set the tone for using original protagonists unconnected to the movie series, a trend that has been followed by virtually every Alien comic book and novel since. Additional back-up stories include; Kings in Disguise, The Argosy, The Dawn of Angst, & Yakub and the Vulture… All presented in Glorious Black & White. Awesome!

Dark Horse Presents #43 & 43 contains:

Dark Horse Comics Presents #42 – July 1990

Dark Horse comics premiere anthology presents in this issue the beginning of a two-part Aliens saga, by Heartbreaker’s co-creator Paul Guinan! Other features this issue include a Dark Horse/Kitchen Sink co-presentation – a preview to the sequel to the Harvey and Eisner award-winning series Kings in Disguise by creators Dan Burr and Jim Vance, plus the penultimate chapter in Bruce Zick’s interstellar myth-odyssey, Argosy!

Also in this issue, in the tradition of Jack Kirby’s New Gods, The Argosy concludes its four-part saga as the Argonauts do battle with a monstrous Minotaur. The Argosy is written and illustrated by Bruce Zick.
