DC Special was an series of double-sized issues spotlighting different parts of the DC universe. One issue, for example, might consist of adventure stories from the early days of The Brave and the Bold, featuring heroes like the Viking Prince, the Silent Knight, and Robin Hood. Other issues centered around topics ranging from strange sports tales to the origins of Golden Age heroes. Virtually all of this material was reprinted from early DC comics, but at around 25¢ for 68 pages of reading, DC Special was a superior reading bargain.

After the execution of Corbeau, the Musketeers are rewarded by King Louis. The young Duc D’Artaghan receives an extra reward, the title to Corbeau’s castle, and the other Musketeers resent it. Rejecting his offer to accompany him to the new castle, the musketeers all go their own way. Duc D’Artaghan makes his way to the castle alone and comes across a brigands attacking a coach. There he crosses swords with a very skilled masked swordsman. Later arrives at his new castle only to be confronted by another masked swordsman whom he swiftly defeats. Now exhausted, D’Artaghan thinks he sees Corbeau’s ghost and goes to lay down and sleep. Sinking into a nightmare slumber, D’Artaghan dreams of a bird monster and suddenly wakes up to an assailant masked as a bird. They battle and fall out a window right into the midst of the other Musketeers arrive at the castle. Its discovered that the bird masked assassin is
Corbeau’s daughter seeking revenge. Afterwards, Duc D’Artaghan receives new orders from Richelieu, King Louis’s counselor, to collect taxes and make sure they reach the King. The other Musketeers other to help, but after they collect the taxes, they themselves are attacked and robbed by the notorious bandit who wears a mask. D’Artaghan comes up with a mad scheme to catch the masked bandit and later is shocked to discover who it is.
