Letterer: Virtual Calligraphy’s Joe Sabino
Editors: Axel Alonso, Frankie Johnson & Jordan D. White
All Covers by: Glenn Fabry & Adam Brown
Possibly the world’s most skilled mercenary, definitely the world’s most annoying, Wade Wilson was chosen for a top-secret government program that gave him a healing factor allowing him to heal from any wound. Now, Wade makes his way as a gun for hire, shooting his prey’s faces off while talking his friends’ ears off. Call him the Merc with the Mouth… call him the Regeneratin’ Degenerate… call him… Deadpool.
Cletus Kasady was a serial killer locked up in Rykers Island and sharing a cell with a man named Eddie Brock. Brock had bonded with an alien symbiote that granted him incredible super-powers, allowing him to become the super villain Venom. Venom’s alien symbiote spawned an offspring that bonded with Kasady, turning him into the murderous madman… Carnage.
Come one, come all, for the bloodiest showdown the Marvel Universe has ever seen! It’s two red-suited madmen for the price of one when Deadpool takes on Carnage in the ultimate battle of good-crazy vs. bad-crazy! Will Carnage spread Deadpool all over the landscape? Or will Deadpool talk the scarlet sociopath’s ear off? Find out in this blood-soaked brouhaha for the ages! Plus: Cletus Kasady is behind bars, and the Carnage symbiote is in quarantine! But we all know that’s never going to last, right? Cletus has been evaluated, imprisoned and even lobotomized. Carnage has been sampled, cloned, poked and prodded. But they’ve had enough! It’s time to get the band back together! It’s a return to bloody, murderous form for the deadliest killer in the Marvel Universe!
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Two red-suited madmen for the price of one! • That’s right-good crazy vs. bad crazy, once and for all! And you can bet it’s gonna be a bloody one! A state trooper was complaining about Carnage while eating, oblivious to the fact that he was sitting next to him. Carnage kills him and his friends, and later everyone in the restaurant. Deadpool sees this on the news and accidentally perceives that the lines from the channels he switched to was a sign from the world. (The message was: “The killer is not acting randomly as he believes! Ride the wave of insanity and you can be the first to find him boy!”) Deadpool uses his insanity to luckily find Carnage at the outside of Tulsa. Carnage starts talking to himself about what happened over the past moths when suddenly, Deadpool attacks! After a short but suspenseful battle. Deadpool defeats Carnage with a grenade in the mouth. Before he kills Carnage however, Shreik incinerates Deadpools face and rescues Carnage.
Next in issue #2, Carnage is on the loose (again) and the authorities are unable to track his seemingly random attacks! But deranged minds think alike, so who better than Deadpool to track down a serial-killing psychopath? Once he’d opened himself to the madness of the universe giving him “clues”, Deadpool was led to Carnage hiding out in an abandoned housing development in Tulsa. He got the jump on him and attacked… but just as he was about to finish the job, Carnage’s old pal Shriek showed up to save his hide (literally). Now it’s Deadpool’s neck on the line, and he’s outnumbered…
Next in issue #3, After a brutal battle between Deadpool and Carnage in an abandoned housing development, Carnage managed to narrowly escape with his girlfriend, Shriek. But the best way to catch a maniac is to think like a maniac, so who better than Deadpool to stop him? Deadpool continued his pursuit – following the “clues” he saw everywhere until he was able to track down the pair driving down a highway. Deadpool attacked – by using a combine to crash into their car! Shriek was injured and Carnage was forced off the road. It looked like Deadpool finally had the upper hand – but now carnage is really mad…
Finally in issue #4, After Deadpool and Carnage’s battle on the highway – which left Deadpool living roadkill for a tractor trailer – Carnage went on the road again with Shriek. But Deadpool refused to be discouraged: convinced one psychotic could predict another, Deadpool continued to follow the “clues” he saw everywhere to find Carnage. Those clues led him to a secret base of the Mercury Team – highly trained soldiers with symbiotic weaponry. But Carnage and Shriek had beaten him there – all the members of Mercury Team had been slaughtered. Only a lone dog remained – with four of the Mercury Team’s symbiotes that had managed to escape attached to it! The symbiotes then joined themselves to Deadpool – now he can finally fight Carnage with Carnage!
In the Carrington Cottage Psychiatric Hospital, Carnage is lamenting about his insanity and asking the doctors about whether or not chaos and chance even exist, when suddenly he gets shot by Deadpool, who is sniping from a nearby tree. Carnage starts calling him out, and Deadpool attacks with all of the life foundation Symbiotes bonded to him. After scaring Shriek away and making Carnage retreat, Deadpool disguises Shriek as himself, wanting Carnage to destroy the Deadpool decoy. The plan works and Carnage nearly kills Shriek. Then Carnage sits in an unlocked cell waiting to be alone, and swearing vengeance on The Merc with a Mouth. Deadpool sends Lasher to give the symbioses back to the army, and ponders who will be the next person he cures of insanity.
