Deadworld (2005 – 2006) Comics Lot
Writer: Gary Reed

Letterer: Nate Pride
Covers #1,2,3 by: Vince Locke
Covers #4,5,6 by: Dalibor Talajic & Tomislaw Tikulin
Image & Desperado are thrilled to announce the return of one of the oldest and most successful horror series in comic history. A supernatural plague has been unleashed on the world. Pockets of civilization face the darkest side of humanity, where science and technology are no longer their allies and where the power of reasoning is no longer their weapon alone. Deadworld is a story of horror and death, yet also one of hope and life. With over 50 issues previously published, now is the time to start anew with fresh meat!
After a gap of a number of years, artist Vince Locke returns as artist of Deadworld in this series published by Image. It is another series of flesh-eating zombies and as usual for this type of genre, it is a battle of the non-zombies fleeing the zombies as established in films as Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Not for the squeamish, as some of Locke’s artwork is visually quite realistic and graphic.
A supernatural plague was unleashed on the world…
The plague came so fast, it was never even named. The world had coughed up its dead and before anyone realized what was happening, the sickness had devoured most of the living. The structure of society evaporated. The Nation Guard… the Army… all civic authority were combined into one unit in an attempt to restore order. But in essence, their function came down to one job. They became garbage men. The trash they collected was the empty shells of humans who no longer drew breath. In the midst of this catastrophic disaster, many humans survived. Some carried the human spirit and wished to maintain a sense of civilization, while others descended into tribal affiliations at war with each other.
But all the while, the zombie menace continued to grow…
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, The zombies return to walk the earth, led by the sadistic and Harley-riding King Zombie! A group of teens, desperately looking for signs of civilization, not only have to hide from the mindless zombie hordes, they must also contend with the intelligent, talking zombie overlords that seem to control and direct the flesh-eaters! What key do these terrified kids have that could halt the zombie menace forever?
Next in issue #2, Trapped and surrounded by zombies, what once was thought to be a sanctuary is instead revealed to be a death trap! But there is a chance of hope as the zombie master, the mysteriously talking King Zombie, offers a deal. All the surviving teens have to do is betray one of their own!
Next in issue #3, As reluctant saviors of the insane Deake, the teens find themselves on the run from King Zombie and his new soldiers, the savage and powerful Grakken. Their only hope may be on a houseboat, but will it take them to safety or lead them into the belly of the beasts?
Next in issue #4, The Grakken are on the prowl and hunting for the teens, who have ditched their school bus to venture onto a houseboat. Water will stop zombies… won’t it? King Zombie finds crucified zombies along roads that have been declared safe by humans and that doesn’t sit too well with him.
Next in issue #5, The teens, still reeling from the death of their friends, suddenly find themselves not so alone anymore as a sanctuary of hundreds of other survivors is found. But, is there strength in numbers and who is the “hanged man?”
Finally in issue #6, The survivors of the massacre attempt to reach Sanctuary only to find they have another choice…or do they? The King Zombie proclaims that this is the last day for life on this world and sets out to make sure of his promise.
