Description

Detective Comics #880                       Comic
Featuring Jock’s re-imagined, truly horrifying incarnation of the Joker!  Awesome!!
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Jock
Colorist: Dave Baron
Letterer: Jared K. Fletcher
Editors: Janelle Asselin, Katie Kubert, & Mike Marts
Cover by: Jock

It all comes down to this! The Joker is on the loose in the catacombs beneath Gotham City, more vicious and frightening than ever. But even as Batman closes in on The Clown Prince of Crime, he begins to suspect that the city may be the target of an even deadlier threat – one that could shake Gotham City to its core.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #880, “My Dark Architect”, Splitting the story between the perspectives of both Batman and Commissioner Gordon, the latest episode gives us a Joker story that’s not really a Joker story at all. Joker has escaped yet again from Arkham Asylum, forcing Commissioner Gordon to protect the ones he loves from the Joker. The Joker is on the loose in the catacombs beneath Gotham City, more vicious and frightening than ever. As Batman descends into the sewers to track the Joker, we see the classic villain re-imagined into a truly horrifying and insane incarnation of the iconic rogue. Snyder and Jock’s Joker is absolutely unsettling and nightmarish. I’m not sure children should read this… gothic horror “Batman/Joker” style. This is the stuff bad dreams are made of… but anyway, even as Batman closes in on The Clown Prince of Crime, he begins to suspect that the city may be the target of an even deadlier threat – one that could shake Gotham City to its core. Someone has targeted the Gordon family using an old version of Joker venom. Batman is hot on the heels of the Clown Prince of Crime but discovers, perhaps too late, that the Joker isn’t responsible for the attack on Barbara’s mother or the imminent attack on Barbara herself.
