Description

Duel                                                                Comics Lot
Featuring real-world Aerial Combat Dogfights all presented in Glorious Black & White, with the exception of issue #0 being presented in Full Color by Joseph Wight.  Awesome!!
Writers: Joseph Wight & Ted Nomura
Artists: Joseph Wight & Ted Nomura
Editors: Doug Dlin & Paul Kilpatrick
Covers by: Ted Nomura

This series from Antarctic Press is aimed toward military buffs who want to learn about the art of war. Each issue focuses on a one-on-one duel between two opposing forces in a variety of arenas. The opening issue features a dogfight between Japanese and American fighter pilots during World War II and subsequent issues may depict battles between tanks, ships, aircrafts, and people. The writers and artists of this series have attempted to meticulously research the facts and technical details so that readers may learn what actually ensues during real world combat.

Duel focuses purely on trial by combat. Each issue features a complete duel between two equal but opposing forces, spanning all time, themes, and genres. Well researched and presented in authentic detail, Duel tells the story of how skill, brute force, and cunning all determine who lives and who dies – all told in 100% pure, relentless, cover-to-cover action. Aircraft, battleship, submarine, helicopter, motor-cycle, or just hand-to-hand combat… Duel has it all.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #0, It’s an American mercenary pilot from the Flying Tigers in his Curtis P-40 Warhawk against a seasoned Japanese warrior in his Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (Zero) in the skies of China on Christmas Day.

Featuring full color artwork by Joseph Wight. Awesome

Next in issue #1, While the USAF Special Forces are supporting the Army’s Operation: Mongoose, their main battle over the mountains to flush out the terrorists, a lone modified Blackhawk (the USAF Special Forces’ Pavehawk version), carrying a female news reporter, encounters a renegade Hind-E manned by special Al Quaeda crew bent on assassinating Pakistan’s President. It’s up to the Blackhawk’s crew to stop them!

Next in issue #2, When the Argentine forces took over the Falkland Islands by force in 1982, the Argentines realized a century-old dream, but the British weren’t going to take it sitting down. On May 1st, the Argentine carrier, 25 de Mayo, was ready to strike the British fleet, but lack of wind was going to stop them. Yet the winds of war were on the Argentine side this time, resulting in a new and deadlier suicide war.

Finally in issue #3, It is the end of the Third Reich, but the war is not yet over. With the introduction of the new German flying wing, the Horton Ho-229A-1, the most advanced of the new jet fighters, the Americans respond with their P-72 “Super-Thunderbolt,” the most powerful of the piston-engine-powered fighters. In real history, both were in the prototype stage and flying when the war ended before they could be deployed. In this “what if” scenario, the combat takes place in the sky above Berlin!
