The Executioner is a monthly men’s action-adventure series following the exploits of the character Mack Bolan alias The Executioner, and his wars against organized crime and international terrorism. The series has been serialized in over 600 novels and has sold more than 200 million copies since its debut installment, War Against the Mafia. The series was created and initially written by American author Don Pendleton, who penned 37 of the original 38 Bolan novels. In 1980, Pendleton licensed the rights to Gold Eagle and was succeeded by a collective of ghostwriters.
Mack Bolan is a Vietnam War veteran serving as a sniper. It is in these jungles where the young Bolan honed his military capabilities and his deadly accuracy. His 97 confirmed kills gave birth to the nickname he would carry for the rest of his life: The Executioner.
IDW Publishing teams up with Gold Eagle to reprise one of adventure fiction’s longest-running novel series: Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan, The Executioner! The inspiration for countless payback warrior characters since 1969, Bolan returns in an explosive five-issue miniseries that pits him against enemies drawn from the Executioner’s many novelized conflicts-from his war against the Mafia to his battles with the KGB and even today’s terrorists! By celebrated author Douglas Wojtowicz, writer of many of The Executioner novels, with art by S.L. Gallant and a covers by cover artist Rebecca A. Wrigley.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, IDW Publishing and Gold Eagle Books continue the all-new comic adventures of Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan, the Executioner! The original one-man army continues his battle against the Border Steel Cartel. The Border Steel Cartel has made a killing in the illegal arms business. Unfortunately, their power and their fame have drawn the attention of Mack Bolan, the Executioner.
Next in issue #2, Mack Bolan and a pair of ATF agents meet to discuss the Cartel when violence explodes on the streets of Brownsville. Can Bolan keep the bloodshed from claiming innocent lives? With the semi-official backing of a covert government agency, the Executioner has been shutting down the illegal weapons traffic set up by the transnational organization. With elements of the American, Russian and Mexican mafias assembled, they each recognize the unmistakable footprint of the lone crusader, the exclamation point coming in the form of a destroyed warehouse, and a frightened criminal’s relayed warning of the warrior’s judgment…
Next in issue #3, A ruthless international conglomerate of organized crime gangs calling themselves the Steel Border Cartel (SBC) are funneling Russian black market weaponry into the U.S.. The Executioner has been hunting them, prompting memories and recognition by the American, Mexican and Russia mafias. Looking for more information on the cartel, Bolan goes to meet a pair of federal agents also after the cartel. Rather than an intelligence swap, however, Bolan finds himself in a trap with the agents, Melissa Nye and Jerry Cooke, as the bait. Bolan smashes the ambush, but realizes that the (SBC) has his number. After a little patching up, Bolan learns the extent of the carnage from the Battle of Brownsville.
Next in issue #4, Agent Cooke is injured, Agent Nye is held prisoner by amoral, predatory thugs, and 22 tons of deadly weaponry are ready to be delivered to criminal maniacs around the United States. Can even the Executioner, with assistance from the creative team of Doug Wojtowicz, SL Gallant and Luis Antonio Delgado, save the girl and prevent street gangs from being armed for the apocalypse? Or will Justin Randall’s next cover be the tombstone for our heroes?
Finally in issue #5, Leaving behind a freighter loaded with tons of war weapons sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, Bolan arrives just as Meghan Nye kills one of her captors. Now, surrounded by Strakhov’s army, with battle helicopters and machine gun mounted jeeps, Bolan informs Nye that they’re leaving the compound the hard way. With one of the Cartel’s leaders bleeding to death on the floor of the dungeon, and the other four on the scene, the Executioner intends to sever every single head of the army smuggling hydra tonight…
