Description
Frankenstein Alive, Alive! Comics Lot
Featuring the Complete Cover A Collection. Awesome!
Frankenstein created by: Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Writer: Steve Niles
Artists: Bernie Wrightson & Kelley Jones
Letterer: Robbie Robbins
Editors: Denton J. Tipton & Scott Dunbier
All Covers by: Bernie Wrightson & José Villarrubia
Inspired by Mary Shelley’s immortal gothic horror tale, Frankenstein Alive, Alive! brings new life to the Promethean monster, courtesy of Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Bernie Wrightson (Frankenstein, Swamp Thing). Victor Frankenstein’s cobbled together creature continues his adventures, embarking on a journey to discover his own humanity. This macabre four-issue comic series was scanned from the original art which “showcases” the exquisitely detailed brush work of one of the greatest artists in comics today… And if that were not enough, additional art is supplied in the final chapter by Kelley Jones (at Wrightson’s request), who stepped in to complete the series upon the comic book legend’s untimely passing in March 18, 2017. Each issue also includes supplemental materials, including interviews, essays and a serialization of the original prose story by Shelley.
Now, IDW Publishing presents the continuation of one of the greatest horror stories of all time… that literally picks up from the end of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. All presented in Glorious Black & White like only Bernie Wrightson could do.
Stories/Spoilers
In issue #1, At the beginning we find the creature is now living a content life as a part of the ‘freak’ portion of a travelling circus and carnival as… ‘The Frankenstein Monster’! Having found a family of sorts who accept people as they are, without preconditions and without questions he can afford to remember back to a time when things weren’t so idyllic. The creature’s thoughts travel back to its suicide attempt at the end of Shelley’s novel. Up in the arctic it tries to end its existence as it is haunted by its maker, Dr Frankenstein. Relying on the frigid waters to do the deed, but to no success. It seems the creature is, like original sin, immortal. When it is found and brought to a benevolent doctor’s isolated clinic it finds a peace, living in relative solitude but acceptance… at least for a while.
Next in issue #2, The creature is brought to the mansion of Dr. Simon Ingles. Once he thaws out, his reaction is similar to the first time the creature was born. But things aren’t all bad for him, Dr. Ingles is welcoming to the giant, and the latter is eager to read all the books the Doctor has. Something seems a little off about the kind doctor, though…
Next in issue #3, The Monster has lived under the roof of Dr. Ingles for over a year but now what seemed like hospitality has taken a sinister turn. Why is the Doctor dismissing the other patients? And why is the monster left behind?
Finally in issue #4, With things at Dr. Ingles’ place growing more and more concerning, the creature is faced with some hard moral decisions and has to decide where his virtues and beliefs lie.
