Hold onto your webs, spider-fan! A major character from Peter Parker’s past returns! Meanwhile, is that the Hobgoblin terrorizing the skies? And if so, how is he connected to the shocking changes in Spider-Man’s life? Continuity fans better break out their back issues, because both Spidey’s past and future will change when an old (and unexpected) foe executes his master plan! Plus: Presenting “Weblog,” an off-beat Spidey tale that starts at the very beginnings of Spider-Man’s career and goes all the way through to the distant future… as seen through the eyes of a woman who is convinced that the web-slinger has been stalking her her entire life. And finally, think Spider-Man doesn’t have to worry about death anymore, having escaped its grasp in “The Other?” Think again, as – years after his origin – Spider-Man finds himself back in the ring, squaring off against a masked wrestler whose name literally means “Death”… and for good reason!
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, A girl named Vanna Smith happens to be in some of the same places that Spider-Man has fought supervillains over the years and believes he is following her. She puts these incidents in her web blog entries.
Next in part #2, When J. Jonah Jameson and his son John are taken hostage by a crook seeking revenge, J.J., believing John is Spider-man, expects him to save them. Just when he realizes his mistake, they are saved by a Mexican wrestler named El Muerto. When J.J. learns about El Muerto’s mission to defeat, humiliate and unmask Spider-man, he arranges a wrestling match with a million dollars going to charity. Meanwhile, Flash Thompson, out of his coma and with no memory of the last few years, is the new coach at Midtown High. Spider-man accepts the challenge and wrestles El Muerto, but when he realizes the loser must unmask, a venomous stinger involuntarily shoots from his wrist, stinging El Muerto.
Next in part #3, El Muerto lies in hospital under the gaze of J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson. Jameson is interested in finding more about Spider-Man’s new found powers when a dark shadow appears. Meanwhile Spider-Man and Iron Man are flying across the city. Spider-Man is explaining to Iron Man his recent mystical dealing.
Back at the Hospital El Muerto wakes up and suddenly El Dorado is standing behind Jameson and Robertson. Another interlude sees Jarvis and Aunt May going out on a date while a mysterious shadowy figure follows them. When the story returns to the hospital El Dorado wants to take the life of El Muerto and he threatens Jameson until Spider-Man comes flying in the window. Spider-Man must fight El Dorado while Jameson and Robertson quickly leave. Spider-Man finds that El Dorado is wearing a mystical Gold Armor and that his stingers cannot harm El Dorado.
Meanwhile in Stark tower Mary Jane and Tony Stark have a brief conversation about how her arm has healed and that she looks at her husband with suspicion.
Spider-Man is now busy mixing chemicals to defeat El Dorado when El Muerto comes up behind him and throws him over his shoulder. El Dorado unfortunately kicks El Muerto in the face and he falls into some broken glass and as El Dorado moves towards him Spider-Man distracts El Dorado long enough to throw a chemical concoction he has made up. The Concotion melts El Dorado’s Mystical gold plated armour enough for Spider-Man to punch him through a wall. When Spider-Man and El Muerto go to look for El Dorado he has disappeared.
Aunt May and Jarvis have in this time had their meal at the restaurant, when she mentions Uncle Ben, when suddenly outside the mysterious figure shows up who looks like Ben Parker leaving questions to be answered.
Next in part #4, In an alternate timeline, High school student Peter Parker comes home to find police lights flashing outside his house. He races inside only to discover that his beloved aunt, May Parker, has fallen down the steps and died. His uncle, Ben, consoles Peter and promises to do everything he can to help him through this difficult time.
Peter reveals to his uncle, the nature of his newly-spawned spider-like super-powers. He tells him that he has been using his abilities on the wrestling circuit and wants to hire Ben as his agent. Ben is uncomfortable with Peter using his powers to make money, but agrees to help him nonetheless.
Two years later, Peter and Ben are still living in the same house. Pete has been very successful with his wrestling career, and his success has made him arrogant. He fires Uncle Ben, preferring instead to go with an upscale Manhattan talent agency.
This alternate timeline begins to bleed over into the static Earth-616 universe, and Ben discovers that in this continuity, it was he that died all those years ago, not May Parker.
At Stark Tower, May Parker begins to hear rumors of someone fitting Ben’s description wandering around the neighborhood. Spider-Man learns of this incident as well and tracks Ben down. Seeing Ben alive shocks him, but he has been duped too many times in his life to instantly believe that this actually his beloved uncle back from the dead.
Suddenly, a villain claiming to be the Hobgoblin of the year 2211 appears in the sky above them.
Next in part #5, In the year 2211, Dr. Robin Borne has been altering other realities in an attempt to save her own. Arrested by her father, Spider-man, she has her memories erased and is put in a virtual-reality prison. Dr. Lars Nyven loves Robin and has engineered a nanovirus to free her from captivity, but something has gone wrong. Robin is driven insane by the procedure and given enhanced physical abilities. If Robin can’t make her daddy proud the new Hobgoblin is going to erase every Spider-man from every reality. But first she’s going to move the still living Ben Parker into our reality. Can her father stop her, can any Spider-man?
Finally in part #6, Ben Parker is back, but May doesn’t believe its him, everyone thinks it’s a trick. Can Peter get Gwen Stacy back, change reality for the better, the Hobgoblin 2211 says he can, but should he? Not if the Spider-man from 2211 can stop her and set realities right again. But does Ben Parker want to go back to his own reality? Spider-man’s going to set thing right, or die trying.
