Description

Gilgamesh II                                  Trade Paperback Lot
An alien child arrives on Earth, alone, to grow up to become the most powerful being on the face of the planet…
Gilgamesh II created by: Jim Starlin
Writer: Jim Starlin
Artist: Jim Starlin
Colorist: Steve Oliff
Letterer: Todd Klein
Editors: Denny O’Neil, Dan Raspler & Dick Giordano
All Covers by: Jim Starlin

The story began on August 17, 1987. Around the world, people were gearing up for the Harmonic Convergence, a rare astrological event that was said to bring about cosmic changes on Earth. As things turned out, that’s exactly what happened. Circling around its atmosphere was an alien craft carrying the last survivors of a race in search of a new home. Bad luck had brought it, badly damaged, to Earth. Only Earth was already inhabited. The captain of the ship decided that there was no other choice but to land. The ship was picked up on U.S. radar and immediately shot down. Only the two infants escaped, having been placed in escape pods earlier. Landing on Earth, one infant was found by a hippie couple, and raised as their son. When Earth fell into cataclysmic wars, the infant, known as Gilgamesh, would become a hero, and later become world leader. Not until much later would the world learn of their leader’s brother…

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “A Mad New World”, In 1987, a doomed spacecraft released two members of its alien race onto Earth. Accidentally two males were released, thus permanently dooming their species. One of these children was found by a family of hippies, the other grew up alone in the jungle. 25 years later, Gilgamesh Bonner, the alien raised by hippies, is now the leader of the corporate world, while his counterpart “The Other”, also known as Otto, lives wild in the jungle. What circumstances can finally bring these two together, and just how will they react to finally meeting each other?

Next in issue #2, “Land of the Nightshadow”, Now business partners and friends, Gilgamesh and Otto face a new threat together when a mysterious beast known as the Nightshadow is killing workers at a location in Columbia. When Gil and Otto travel to Columbia, can they survive the wrath of this mythical beast? And how will Otto react when Gil finally reveals the secret of his true identity?

Next in issue #3, “Twilight Blood”, Otto has become deathly ill following his encounter with the Nightshadow. Gilgamesh, feeling distraught, spends most of his time with Otto leaving his mother to run the corporate world. But when Gil’s adversary uses this chance to finally take him down, Otto uses his last strength to sacrifice himself in Gilgamesh’s place.

Finally in issue #4, “Much to Do About Nothing”, Following Otto’s death, Gilgamesh finds himself withdrawn into a world of drugs and sex. It is then that Gilgamesh realizes what he can do to find out the secret of life, by plunging into the void itself. When Gilgamesh finds what he was looking for, he learns the greatest irony of all, finding that all he has struggled for was in vain when he finds himself 2000 years in the future and forgotten about.
