Description

Green Arrow: Volume 1 – Quiver                          Sealed Hardcover
Writer: Kevin Smith
Artist: Phillip Hester
Inker: Ande J. Parks
Editors: Nick J Napolitano & Bob Schreck
Cover by: Matt Wagner

Originally introduced in the 1940s, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen has secretly battled crime for years as the masked Green Arrow. With the help of other heroes such as Black Canary and Green Lantern, Queen has employed an arsenal of trick arrows to fight for justice. Then in 1995 Green Arrow died in an airplane explosion. Or did he?

At the forefront of implementing Oliver Queen’s return to the DC Universe was director/actor/comic book writer Kevin Smith. Smith, fresh from his successful retooling of Marvel’s Daredevil, helped to make the first issue of this Green Arrow run one of the bestselling comics of all time.

This hardcover edition features Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, reemerging after years of being assumed dead. But many people, including Black Canary, his ex-lover, Arsenal, his ex-partner, Connor Hawke, his son and temporary successor and Batman, the Dark Knight Detective, want to know how Green Arrow survived the exploding airplane and where he has been. Using strong characterization and engaging dialogue, screenplay writer and movie director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma), successfully resurrects one of the world’s classic heroes.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, Oliver Queen was last seen seconds away from meeting his doom as he clutched a ticking bomb aboard a plummeting airplane. Until now, only Superman knew what really happened on that fateful day. After the fact, many characters populating the DC Universe are asking questions and demanding answers, including Queen’s ex-lover Black Canary, his ex-partner Arsenal, and the son he hardly knew, Connor Hawke, who followed in his father’s footsteps and temporarily became Green Arrow after Queen’s “death.” A certain Dark Knight from Gotham City has some questions of his own and he may not like the answers.

Next in issue #2, Oliver Queen is back in Star City, busting the heads of corrupt fat-cats and sleazy politicians. But he must grapple with a spotty memory while hot on the trail of the murderous Star City Slayer.

Next in issue #3, Ollie is knee-deep in battling drug dealers and corrupt politicians. Meanwhile, a menace from the deep blue sea threatens to throw Star City into chaos. His name… Black Manta!

Next in issue #4, Oliver Queen reunites at last with his former JLA teammates, but the League is quite confused, to say the least. Meanwhile, the Star City Slayer continues his murder spree.

Next in issue #5, The Dark Knight is determined to get to the bottom of Ollie’s “resurrection.” But physical tests can only teach him so much, so Batman ultimately must resort to the metaphysical… the realm of Etrigan, the Demon!

Next in issue #6, The Emerald Archer and the Dark Knight face off against the Demon Etrigan in order to learn the secret of Ollie’s apparent resurrection!

Next in issue #7, Green Arrow’s finally starting to get some insight into the questions surrounding his return. The only problem is that each answer is starting to lead places that even Oliver Queen may be afraid to look into!

Next in issue #8, Batman, Black Canary and Arsenal attack the Demon en masse for they believe he is responsible for the death of Green Arrow. But Deadman arrives and takes possession of Etrigan’s body, forcing him to change back into Jason Blood. He informs the group that Ollie is alive and well and taking a tour of Heaven.

Next in issue #9, Batman, Arsenal, Black Canary and Jason Blood fly the Titans T-Jet back towards Gotham City. Arsenal mentions that Ollie has been staying with an old man named Stanley Dover. Jason Blood recognizes the name and frantically tells them to turn the jet around and go back towards Star City.

Finally in issue #10, Stanley is ready to sacrifice Ollie and take command of his body when an arrow comes from above and pierces Stanley’s hand. Connor, being Ollie’s biological son can pierce the Blood Seal keeping everyone outside of Stanley’s house.
