Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, While sitting fireside, Icabod Crane hears the story of the Headless horseman from his house maid, whom he had been questioning earlier. After she tells the tale of the headless horseman, she proclaims that she has actually seen him. And that Icabod will to… if he hangs around long enough. The following evening… while Icabod Crane is giving singing lessons to Katrina, Brom Bones shows up on his horse, Daredevil, and confronts Icabod thinking he is a rivalry for Katrina. Just as it’s about to get violent, Katrina’s Dad shows up, and the two men compose themselves. Icabod discerns that Katrina has feelings for him and states that her singing lessons will continue later… all the while Brom Bones is giving him the evil eye. A short while later, while walking home alone in the woods, Icabod ponders his relationship with Katrina and his contention with Brom Bones when out of nowhere he sees strange lights in the woods. Suddenly, some kind of demon owl swoops down and starts attacking Icabod scratching his face…close to his eye. Icabod flees in terror trying to elude the crazed devil owl when, by the moonlight, he sees the owl transform into a fiery pumpkin head and coming right at him. Come morning time, Icabod awakes in the woods and wonders if was all a dream. He makes his way home and shares the evenings events with his house maid… and she believes him. The next day, while teaching at school, Icabod’s class is interrupted by a horseman with an invitation to a party. While Icabod secures a horse to travel to the party, Brom Bones has a mysterious graveyard meeting with a nefarious creature and proclaims, “By dawn tomorrow, Icabod Crane will be yours”…
Finally in issue #2, “The Midnight Trooper”, At the party, Brom Bones claims to have seen the Headless Horseman and starts a confrontation with Icabod Crane. Later, during the party, Katrina asks to speak with Icabod in private. She goes on to say the last thing that Icabod wanted to hear… that Brom Bones has proposed to her and has asked her Dad for her hand in marriage. Icabod is devastated and leaves the party. Into the dark of night Icabod enters the forest. With the wind is howling and all the night-time noises, Icabod is unnerved and remembers his night of terror with the demonic owl. Suddenly, Icabod hears a strange sound and sees a mysterious figure moving in the fog. Soon it becomes a night of terror as Icabod comes face to fa… err body with the Headless Horseman. It will not be a night to forget, if Icabod can even survive the night…
