Description
Hiroshima: The Atomic Holocaust / Nagasaki: The Forgotten Bomb Comics Lot
Writer: Ted Nomura
Artist: Ted Nomura
Cover by: Ted Nomura
Ted Nomura offers up a balanced, well-researched look at the events leading up to and following the droppings of the two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Presented in long passages of text with accompanying illustrations, Nomura’s books focuses not only on the military campaigns engaged by both the United States and Japan, it also reveals what the Japanese citizenry felt about the U.S. and its own government. Included is a look at the invasion of Western culture into Japanese society after 1853 that would shape the country’s views of itself and the west in the decades to come. Given his Japanese heritage and experience serving for the U.S. Air Force, Nomura may be uniquely qualified to offer an objective yet deeply affecting look at the event.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “The Black Rain of Ruin: Part One”, Seventy years ago, two atomic bombs fell on Japan. Yet the two bombs were different as night and day, and so were their missions. This issue created completely by Ted Nomura explores the development of the atomic bomb program and all its problems, then focuses on the details of the A-bomb mission that devastated Hiroshima. Follow Colonel Tibbets and the Enola Gay on a mission that will forever change the course of history…
Next in issue #2, “The Black Rain of Ruin: Part Two”, Ted Nomura also presents an illustrated text story about the second, less well-known atomic bombing, which finally convinced the Japanese government to surrender. A Japanese-American and military vet himself, Nomura presents the story from both sides, including historical background on the previous 100 years of Japanese history, and the nations fraught encounters with Western culture that led to the events of World War II.
