Description
Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix Comics Lot
Writer: Lee Marrs
Artist: Leo Duranona
Colorists: Perry McNamee & Frank Lopez
Editors: Edward Martin III, Dan Thorsland & Ryder T. Windham
All Covers by: Dave Dorman
Before the premiere of the first Indiana Jones movie, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” in 1981, archeology was not considered an exceptionally dangerous or exciting career. But then Dr. Indiana Jones is not an ordinary archeologist. Rather than sift through the ruins of ancient civilizations that only academics are interested in, Dr. Jones seeks out artifacts that power-hungry, would-be world conquerors are interested in.
In this mini-series from Dark Horse, Jones is on the trail of the legendary Philosophers Stone, which has the power to alter matter and has been divided into three parts. From Kiev in Russia to Ireland and then to the Himalayas of Tibet, Jones engages in a deadly scavenger hunt, tangling with Cossacks, murderous Druids and disarming Tibetan monks. Like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, this story was initiated by Lucasfilm Games division and features outstanding cover paintings by Dave Dorman.
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, 1947 post-war Germany. Indy is braving the political turmoil and treacherous rubble of Berlin to find the Key of Solomon, a scroll detailing the whereabouts of the legendary Philosopher’s Stone, fabled to have the power to turn lead to gold and bring the dead to life. Indy sets off for the stone, dodging Soviet bureaucrats and Nazis – all of them hunting the same prize! Will the Third Reich rise again?
Next in issue #2, The fragments of the mystical philosophers’ stone lie scattered about the world, each twisted to evil use. Indiana Jones traces one piece to a quiet Irish town where an ancient Druid cult holds the people hostage and besieges them with terrors beyond belief. Can Jones break the spell of evil and recover the fragment before the Nazis use it to unleash the ultimate horror?
Next in issue #3, Indy has the third piece of the famed Philosophers’ Stone in his grip – but only for a moment and then it vanishes, first by the hand of the Russian military and then through agents of the mysterious Nazi Jäger. Indy has been warned that the stone, once re-formed, can tip the balance of life and death, and be used for hideous and evil purposes. Now he’s in a race with the Russian Comrade Major Nadia Kirov to win back the third piece, on a one-way train, straight into the mouth of the enemy!
Finally in issue #4, In the heart of enemy territory, Indy stumbles on an evil genius who’s about to release his undead army on an unsuspecting world. The mythical philosophers’ stone is the key to wresting the madman’s power, if only Jones can keep a grip on it!
Features painted Indiana Jones cover art by Dave Dorman. Awesome!
