Part of Jim Starlin’s Infinity stories that include The Infinity Gauntlet, The Infinity War, and the The Infinity Crusade. The Infinity Abyss features the rebirth of Adam Warlock, Thanos dopplegangers, and blocks of nothingness – all of this leads to big things going on the universe. The series centers on the Thanosi, five failed genetic experiments by the Titan Thanos, with each being a clone of his DNA and modeled on other beings, including the characters Professor X; Doctor Strange; Gladiator; Iron Man and Galactus. Obsessed with nihilism and a desire to end the universe, the five Thanosi – attempt to kill the original Thanos…

The series centers on the Thanosi, five failed genetic experiments by the Titan Thanos, with each being a clone of his DNA and modeled on other beings, including the characters Professor X; Doctor Strange; Gladiator; Iron Man and Galactus. Obsessed with nihilism and a desire to end the universe, the five Thanosi – called X; Mystic; Warrior; Armor and Omega – attempt to kill the original Thanos by creating a black hole in space. X then impersonates Thanos and directs character Pip the Troll to kidnap a recovering Adam Warlock on an alien planet. X requires information from Warlock, who previously made contact with an entity called the Anchor of Reality. By killing this being and preventing it from locating a successor, the Thanosi clones will therefore end the universe. The female mercenary Gamora locates the real Thanos, and with the aid of Warlock and heroes Doctor Strange; Spider-Man; Captain Marvel and Moondragon the Titan neutralizes four of the five clones. Omega arrives on Earth to kill the successor to the Anchor of Reality and to destroy the Earth, and is teleported with the heroes to a barren planet where they battle. Thanos transports the heroes back to Earth, and then has a fleet of alien mercenaries destroy the planet, killing the final clone. A human girl called Atleza is able to become the new Anchor of Reality unchallenged, ending the threat.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “A Mad Calling!”, Something is amiss in the universe. A strange nothingness has started to claim victims. Adam Warlock has reverted to his cocoon state. Thanos’ nihilistic church has returned. There is someone (or some ones) seemingly impersonating Thanos. But Thanos is gathering a group of heroes to stop the impending doomsday! Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, Moondragon, Gamora, Pip the Troll and a new Adam Warlock scramble into action — but will even this amount of power be effective against Thanos, the Mad Titan?

Next in issue #2, “Paranoids and Nihilists”, The cosmic thrills continue! With our survival on the line, Thanos and Moondragon delve into Adam Warlock’s damaged psyche! Meanwhile, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man continue their quest for answers as our reality draws closer to extinction! As another cube of nothingness claims 3/4 of the Defenders, Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange set out to investigate on different paths. Elsewhere, Moondragon attempts to awake Adam Warlock from his cocoon and alert him to the danger that exists. Following his awakening, he and Pip depart to investigate his memory loss, as Moondragon learns the truth about the false Thanos. Meanwhile, Gamora encounters the true Thanos and learns that there are other Thanos’. And what is the danger that Spider-Man has discovered?

Next in issue #3, “Memory Disorders”, How can a nondescript farmhouse in upstate New York hold the key to universal Armageddon? That’s what Spider-Man and Captain Marvel have to figure out — while the secret of Thanos’ scheme becomes apparent, and an ally becomes an implacable enemy! Spider-man and Captain Marvel discover the disturbance in Upstate New York as another mysterious cube appearing. Meanwhile, Thanos reveals the truth behind his duplicates that have went on to form the Legion of Oblivion, and Gamora is left to face one of their numbers. On Monster Island, Warlock and Pip realize that their destination lies in Eternity itself, where Moondragon and Dr. Strange are locked in combat. Arriving, Warlock and Pip find Eternity and Infinity merged together, as the heavens themselves have gone mad!

Next in issue #4, “Breakdown!”, Something has gone awry with Eternity and Infinity — and Adam Warlock seeks the answer to their baffling condition, while the Abyss beckons! As Spider-man and Captain Marvel are consumed by a Nil disruption, for some reason they are not consumed, which may be linked to a two year old? Elsewhere, Adam Warlock embarks on a quest to remember the past two years of his life, a journey which points again to the two year old that may have saved Spider-man and Captain Marvel! Finally, as Armour and Gamora clash, Thanos steps in to clean up his mess, but the mess that the Omega duplicate poses may be too much for even him to handle!

Next in issue #5, “Errors in Judgment”, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel protect the next protector of all reality. Adam Warlock learns everything he needs to know, but to use that knowledge, he must make a sacrifice to save all reality. Spider-man and Captain Marvel must defend Azleta and her family against X and his nihilists, as Adam Warlock discovers the cause behind the disruptions in reality. As two of Thanos’ other duplicates attack Warlock, desperate measures are taken to ensure that the new Reality Anchor can take her rightful place. But after the battle, what happens when one of the duplicates is drawn into the Soul Gem, thus making Adam Warlock’s dreams the same as his!

Finally in issue #6, “Rewards & Punishment”, Thanos holds the secret to victory in the double-sized series finale! As Warlock struggles with Warrior’s integration into the Soul Gem, Thanos readies the rest of the heroes for battle against Omega. Destroying an enemy whose power dwarfs Galactus isn’t an easy task, fortunately Thanos’ plan is just a diversion until the real firepower arrives. Following the battle, Atleza is able to take Atlez’ place, and all is right with the universe once again. But still, why has Thanos not found contentment?
