Invaders from Mars is a 1953 American science fiction film independently produced by Edward L. Alperson Jr., directed by William Cameron Menzies, screenplay by Richard Blake. The film starred Jimmy Hunt, Helena Carter, Arthur Franz, Morris Ankrum, Leif Erickson, and Hillary Brooke.

When a young boy accidentally witnesses a spaceship land on the outskirts of his quiet town, a series of cryptic events is set in motion. Beings of extraordinary intelligence, possessing the human bodies of the citizens of Ninevah and directed by an unseen entity, bring about the end of innocence for Joshua and perhaps all of earth.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “The Sign of Jonah”, Late one-night, young David MacLean is awakened by a loud thunderstorm. From his bedroom window, he sees a large flying saucer descend and disappear into the sandpit area behind his home. After rushing to tell his parents, his scientist father goes to investigate David’s claim. When his father returns much later in the morning, David notices an unusual red puncture along the hairline on the back of his father’s neck; his father is now behaving in a cold and hostile manner. David soon begins to realize something is very wrong: one-by-one he notices certain townsfolk are acting in exactly the same way. Later, David sees a child neighbor walking in the sandpit, when she suddenly disappears underground.

Next in issue #2, “In the City of Fish”, David flees for help, and inexplicably the girl that disappeared underground shows up… like nothing ever happened. David’s “parents” eventually take David to the local infirmary where he placed in the care of a nurse named Miss Grant. After a series of inexplicable events, Miss Grant slowly begins to believe David’s crazy story. Seeking help, they travel to Iowa City, to the National Guard Depot… where they meet the mysterious scientific advisor, Captain Mark Thyme.

Finally in issue #3, “The Son of Man”, David soon realizes the flying saucer is likely the vanguard of an invasion from the planet Mars, now in close orbital proximity to Earth. Soon after, David, Miss Grant, Captain Mark Thyme, and the Military find themselves at sandpit area behind his home. David, Miss Grant and a General are soon “sucked” underground! Mysteriously separated, David comes face to face with the Martian Supreme Intelligence. Meanwhile, above ground, Captain Mark Thyme leads the Military underground with an offensive attack. Death and mayhem erupt as Man versus Aliens clash.
