GoldenEye is a 1995 spy film, the seventeenth in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 officer James Bond. It was directed by Martin Campbell and is the first in the series not to utilize any story elements from the works of novelist Ian Fleming. The story was conceived and written by Michael France, with later collaboration by other writers. In the film, Britain’s top secret agent takes on a rogue general from the former Soviet republic, as well as a shadowy figure from his own past known as Janus. Unless Bond can stop them, they intend to use a pirated satellite weapon, known as GoldenEye, to unleash fiery destruction on all of London.
James Bond, Agent 007, is a superspy who works for the MI6 secret service branch of the British Government. Created by Ian Fleming, Bond was originally the star of a series of novels, before being adapted into the world’s longest running film franchise. Inevitably, James Bond has found his way into all types of media adaptations including into newspaper strips and comics books.
Now, Topps Comics presents, “James Bond 007: GoldenEye”. This is the adaptation of the hit movie that brought James Bond back into the spotlight after seven long years! A Russian satellite weapon is stolen, alongside a newly developed helicopter, and James Bond is the only one that can stop the organization behind these thefts! But will the revelation of the identity of the group’s leader hit harder than Bond could ever expect? And can he escape the clutches of the glamorous assassin working for his foe, a woman who’ll stop at nothing to give him a good squeeze? This series, intended to be three issues, was cancelled after a single issue (not counting the preview issue #0). It’s still unclear why the whole series wasn’t released and to date the two other intended issues have never been released.
Story/Spoilers
James Bond, 007, and Alec Trevelyan, 006, infiltrate a weapons factory at the ominously named Arkangel. There, whilst attempting to sabotage Russian weapons development, things go drastically wrong, and 006 is killed, whilst Bond escapes in a plane. Nine years later, Bond encounters the glamorous Xenia Onatopp whilst driving in the hills above Monte Carlo, and a dramatic, thrilling race ensues between the Aston Martin DB5 (Bond) vs Ferrari 355 (Onatopp), though Onatopp wins. Later, Bond returns the ‘favour’ by defeating her at baccarat and tries to charm her in his usual manner. She declines, revealing she is already in the company of an Admiral from the Canadian Navy. However, Onatopp is not merely accompanying the Admiral because she enjoys pulling rank – Whilst making love to the Admiral, she crushes him to death with her thighs, achieving orgasm in the process. Meanwhile, Bond is informed of some of the lethal woman’s past in the KGB. The next day, Xenia astonishingly accompanies the same Admiral to the unveiling of the Tiger Helicopter, only to steal it from under the noses of all gathered. We next meet Natalya Federova and Boris Grishenko, two programmers at Severnaya, a Russian Weapons facility. Engaging in a playful bout of insulting Natalya, Boris leaves for a cigarette, just as Onatopp and General Arkady Ouromov – the man who was in charge of the facility 007 and 006 sabotaged – arrive.
Also features a 3 page article (text w/ movie stills) titled, “Staring straight into GoldenEye” by Don McGregor. Awesome!! (see 12th scan)
Collectible Entertainment comment: James Bond 007: GoldenEye (January 1996) is an ill-fated title that was originally to have run for 3 issues instead of just the 1 that was published and therefore is an incomplete adaptation (hence… “To Be Continued” on last page)…. Nonetheless, GoldenEye’s opening sequence and the Aston Martin DB5 (Bond) vs Ferrari 355 (Onatopp) sequence are graphic gold with Claude St. Aubin’s “James Bond” artwork. (see the scans) Awesome!! Recommended for Claude St. Aubin art enthusiast… as well as James Bond Movie enthusiast. It’s good stuff.
Comic is bagged & triple boarded and will be carefully / securely packaged then shipped via USPS Priority Mail to ensure that it arrives to you perfectly and quickly.
