James Bond, Agent 007, is a superspy who works for the MI6 secret service branch of the British Government. Created by Ian Fleming, Bond was originally the star of a series of novels, before being adapted into the world’s longest running film franchise. Inevitably, James Bond has found his way into all types of media adaptations including into newspaper strips and comics books. Permission to Die is the first James Bond comic book storyline not adapted from a previous work, which was published over a two-year period by Eclipse.

Story/Spoilers
In book #1, Bond is sent behind the Iron Curtain to Hungary, to bring out the niece of a reclusive scientist, in exchange for plans to a new, economical satellite launch system. Bond’s contact is one of Kerim Bey’s many progeny.

Next in book #2, Bond uses Little Nellie’s cousin to fly Edaine Gayla to safety, but the mini-copter is damaged in battle with an attack helicopter. Forced to make their way to the border on foot, Bond and Edaine are tracked by an assassin. Bond gets Edaine across the border and leaves an explosive surprise for the assassin.

Finally in book #3, Bond delivers Edaine to her uncle, Dr. Widziardlo, in Idaho, but neither the doctor nor his niece are what they appear to be. The launch system Bond has come to collect is operational and intended for a gruesome warning lesson in support of world peace. A beautiful backwoods guide helps Bond prevent a nuclear disaster.

Each book features wrap-a-round James Bond cover art by Mike Grell. (see scans)
