Tor is an American comics series, created by Joe Kubert and Norman Maurer in the story 1,000,000 Years Ago! (Sept. 1953), published by St. John Publications. The series’ protagonist, Tor, is a prehistoric cave man who has fantasy adventures set in a realistically drawn setting. The original series only ran for five issues and ended in 1954. However, “Tor” was revived by DC Comics in June 1975 for six issues. In June 1993 Marvel Comics released new adventures of Tor. And later Tor publications soon followed.

Tor is a prehistoric caveman warrior who lived in the savage world of a million years ago. In a savage world where humans and dinosaurs lived together, Tor was a fierce fighter who used his strength and his wit to fight and survive against the prehistoric monsters of his era. He is a loner whose only true friend is his pet monkey Chee-Chee. Together, along with a stone axe, they stalk the primal lands wrought with danger, peril, …and adventure!

Joe Kubert is famous for his work on Tarzan, but nothing he has done is more powerful than his work on Tor! Similar to Conan the Barbarian, Kull, and Tarzan (among others), Tor is savage adventure at its best!

Epic Comics – Heavy Hitters presents Joe Kubert’s Tor in a over-sized comic format. Tor tracks down the murderer of his father, Tokar. Set as a prehistoric adventure, this title also draws parallels between Tor’s world and our own. We may not consider ourselves savages, but raw characteristics like greed, vengeance, heroism, fear, and violence are still at the core of human nature.

Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, “Tor”, When Tor comes to the rescue of a woman about to be sacrificed by a strange tribe, he is taken prisoner.

Next in issue #2, “The Chosen One”, Tor’s captors subject him to a battery of painful tests, promising to admit him into their tribe – if he survives

Next in issue #3, “The Rebirth”, After standing trial, Tor is subject to many hardships, culminating in an all out battle with the repulsive Lizard King.

Finally in issue #4, “Vengeance”, Tor returns to his home tribe to avenge the death of his father and mother.

Each issue features a card stock, wrap-a-round cover illustrated by Joe Kubert. (see 10th scan for issues #1,2 and the 11th scan for issue #3,4 – stock photo from the web provided for informational purposes only and is not the actual cover of this item)
