“Vault” revolves around the crew of the spacecraft Gaia, who have been sent to the moon on a supposed resource collecting mission. But the spacefarers are actually investigating an inactive alien spacecraft moored on the far side of the moon. Upon reaching their destination, they are understandably surprised to find that the ship has a fully-functioning AI that uses a quote from an Emily Dickinson poem as a welcome. The crew are then horrified to find the remains of the alien ship’s crew. Each alien died for reasons unknown to the human salvage team at the time of discovery. Ominously, each corpse is infested by an unknown but irradiated fungus…
Story/Spoilers
In issue #1, When the moon-bound crew of Gaia stumbles across an enormous alien vessel, more technologically advanced than their own, priorities change. The mystery deepens when the crew discovers the name of the vessel along the hull written in English: ‘Vault.’
Next in issue #2, Now marooned on the derelict known as ‘Vault’, and trapped along with a hostile force they don’t understand, the crew of the Gaia is hard-pressed to learn more about this corpse-ridden craft. Cracks in alliances widen, the mystery deepens, and the body count rises.
Finally in issue #3, Four of the seven Gaia crew remain. VAULT has reached its destination. This is the end. Will the survivors find the pieces and solve the puzzle, or will they join the host of ghosts already aboard?
