Jughead The Hunger is an ongoing comic book series published by Archie Horror and Archie’s Madhouse, imprints of Archie Comics, beginning in 2017. The story, which takes place outside of the main Archie Comics continuity, focuses on Jughead Jones and his family’s dark legacy to explain the sinister origin of his hunger. The one-shot “pilot” was created by writer Frank Tieri and artist Michael Walsh.
Vampironica is an ongoing American comic book series published by Archie Horror, an imprint of Archie Comics, beginning in 2018. The story, which takes place outside of the main Archie Comics continuity, focuses on Veronica Lodge as she navigates life after becoming a vampiress. It is written by Greg and Meg Smallwood, with the former also serving as an artist.
Riverdale. Home sweet home. A welcoming town, a quiet place of respite, a town that spans not only generations, but entire worlds. However, lately it’s been a ground zero for horrifying supernatural attacks. In one version of Riverdale, local resident Jughead Jones learned a harsh truth: he comes from a long line of werewolves and must resist his urges to kill when the full moon rises – mainly so he doesn’t become the prime target of Betty Cooper: Werewolf Hunter. In another distant, yet familiar world, Veronica Lodge developed a bloodthirst thanks to Ivan, a vampire, who also turned her parents, Hiram and Hermione Lodge. Good thing she was able to kill Dracula, the master (or at least who she believed to be Dracula) and return the town to normal. It seems that at least one Riverdale as we know it has returned to peace and quiet, but looks can be deceiving….
Story/Spoilers
In part #1, In the world of Jughead: The Hunger, there are no vampires, having been wiped out in their great war with the werewolves. In the Vampironica universe, the opposite is the case, as it was the vampires who were the victors. So what happens when these two eternal enemies are brought together again? Whatever it is, it can’t be good for poor ol’ Jug and Vampironica, you can count on that much…
Next in part #2, Jughead has had a lot to deal with since going all ‘Full Moon’. Betty Cooper werewolf hunter, Reggie Mantle werewolf pack… even a Frankenmoose. But has any of this prepared him for Vampironica? Or the horde or vampires that are invading his reality with her? Nope!
Next in part #3, How did the worlds of Jughead: The Hunger and Vampironica come together? Meet Jinx… who may be the most powerful being in either universe. Is she good? Bad? Whatever she is, she may the only one to hold the key to fixing the two realities and prevent an all-out werewolf / vampire war!
Next in part #4, Jughead and Vampironica now know how to set their respective realities right thanks to a most unexpected guest star-and the solution involves the very haunted history of Riverdale itself! The question is, have they bitten off more than they can chew (pun intended) as the newly arrived hordes of vampires try to end them both?
Finally in part #5, This is it! The world-shattering conclusion to the epic horror crossover event of the year! Will Jughead and Vampironica succeed in setting everything right between their respective realities- or will the army of blood suckers reign on Riverdale forever?
