KISS is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley {Starchild} (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons {Demon} (vocals, bass guitar), Ace Frehley {Spaceman} (lead guitar, vocals), and Peter Criss {Catman} (drums, vocals). Known for their face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with shock rock-style live performances which featured fire-breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. With their makeup and costumes, the band members took on the personas of comic book-style characters: the Starchild (Stanley), the Demon (Simmons), the Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley), and the Catman (Criss). Kiss is regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of all time, as well as one of the best-selling bands of all time, claiming to have sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including 21 million RIAA-certified albums. Kiss has also earned 30 Gold albums, the most of any band from the United States. Kiss has 14 Platinum albums, three of which earned multi-Platinum. On April 10, 2014, the four original members of Kiss were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only consistent members. The current lineup consists of them, Tommy Thayer (lead guitar, vocals), and Eric Singer (drums, vocals).
IDW Publishing presents, “KISS Solo”, The Four-Who-Are-One go it alone! The Demon, Starchild, Celestial, and Catman each get the spotlight shined on them in four individual tales!
Stories/Spoilers
In issue #1, “The Demon”, Up first, the Demon takes the stage in ‘Radioactive’ – a tale of blood, revenge, fire, and… the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Next in issue #2, “The Starchild”, It’s the Starchild’s turn to rock a solo riff in “Goodbye”-an interstellar romp featuring a cosmic bounty hunter who needs to bring in one last bad guy in order to return home to his beloved wife forever. The only problem is, nobody’s ever gone after this baddie in his dark domain and survived. But what if there is a star to light the way?
Next in issue #3, “The Celestial”, This tale of galaxy-spanning high adventure sees the most spaced-out of the Four-Who-Are-One caught up in a battle against twisted alien pirates and… himself…? The odds are long and the stakes high in this standalone, space-faring story!
Finally in issue #4, “The Catman”, In this new twist on the beauty and the beast mythos, a malevolent would-be demi-god plans the bloody sacrifice of a beautiful virgin female to the dark forces of the universe in the hopes of increasing his own powers, and it’s up to the Catman to stop the sinister ceremony and save the girl!
