Kolchak: The Night Stalker is an American television series that aired on ABC during the 1974-1975 season. Kolchak: The Night Stalker was created by Jeff Rice. It featured a fictional Chicago newspaper reporter – Carl Kolchak, played by Darren McGavin – who investigated mysterious crimes with unlikely causes, particularly those that law enforcement authorities would not follow up. These often involved the supernatural or science fiction, including fantastic creatures. The series was preceded by two television movies, The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973). Although the series lasted only a single season, it garnered a world-wide fan following and is considered a cult classic in horror television. Subsequent novels and comic books later followed. And it later influenced the creation of the X-Files, which is in the same vein as Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
Now, Moonstone continues the creepy horror anthology that is: “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” in various comic book related projects. Cue the “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” intro theme music and be prepared to get totally spooked out in… Kolchak Tales – Ghost Stories! Another special issue featuring three chilling tales, including one by the current Spidergirl creative team! After being fired from the Hollywood Dispatch, Kolchak must find a new way to pay the bills. In “Fifteen Minutes,” our hero joins a team of ghost chasers, where he encounters a house with a very unhappy extra resident. Then, still a reporter at heart, he looks into a “Family Business” to learn why something from beyond the grave is killing truck drivers. And finally, Carl’s new buddies try to give him “A Clue to the Truth” about why he’s cut out for this work, by sending him on an eerie yet spiritual journey. Nothing says “Halloween” like ghosts and Kolchak the Night Stalker! Through these three related vignettes, the reader learns more about Kolchak, and why he has such a close connection to the supernatural. All presented in Glorious Black & White! Awesome!!

In, “Fifteen Minutes”, Kolchak is at his wits end regarding where his next meal is coming from. He decides to get in touch with a young couple he met at a recent funeral – their interest in the supernatural seemed fortuitous, and at the time they had expressed an interest in hiring him to do some writing work for them. As it turns out, the offer wasn’t completely genuine but it was sincere, and Kolchak is intrigued so he joins the team of ghost chasers, where he encounters a house with a very unhappy extra resident.

In, “A Clue To The Truth”, Kolchak is sent by Otto Brerhahrer – a ghost hunter from the first tale – to interview a local expert on the supernatural in order to give himself a better background understanding of ghosts. Kolchak finds himself losing track of the time during his lengthy conversation with Doctor Robert M. Carter; he finally excuses himself hours after he arrived, thanking Dr. Carter profusely for being such an engaging conversationalist. When he meets with Otto the next morning, Otto has news that shocks Kolchak to the core.
