Kolchak: The Night Stalker is an American television series that aired on ABC during the 1974 – 1975 season. Kolchak: The Night Stalker was created by Jeff Rice. It featured a fictional Chicago newspaper reporter – Carl Kolchak, played by Darren McGavin – who investigated mysterious crimes with unlikely causes, particularly those that law enforcement authorities would not follow up. These often involved the supernatural or science fiction, including fantastic creatures. The series was preceded by two television movies, The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973). Although the series lasted only a single season, it garnered a world-wide fan following and is considered a cult classic in horror television. Subsequent novels and comic books later followed. And it later influenced the creation of the X-Files, which is in the same vein as Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Now, Moonstone continues the creepy horror anthology that is: “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” in various comic book related projects. Cue the “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” intro theme music and be prepared to get totally spooked out in… Kolchak Tales – Night Stalker of the Living Dead! To cover a “hometown girl makes good” story in Nebraska, Kolchak finds himself in a mystery involving ghouls. The title is a play on the George Romero horror film classic, “Night of the Living Dead” further tied in by the story’s “monsters” being flesh-eating beasts like Romero’s “living dead”.

Story/Spoilers:
In issue #1B, ZOMBIES! Everybody hates them. But that appears to be exactly what Carl Kolchak finds to be stalking among the cornstalks in the small heartland town of Georges Corner, Nebraska. The simple task of covering just another festival pageant takes a dark turn… as it so often does in Kolchak’s world… when people start disappearing, and the dead start walking! Kolchak and the local sheriff are up to their ears – pun intended! – in zombies at a small-town corn festival! But what is the terrible secret behind these walking, lifeless people, and what else besides people has it affected? This is one story Kolchak may not want to get to the bottom of!

Features the Variant Cover #1B by Dave Ulanski & Ken Wolak. Awesome!!

Next in issue #2B, Kolchak is sent to Georges Corners, Nebraska, where television star Wendi Fairchild is opening her hometown’s annual Corn Festival. Making friends with the attractive Sheriff Kristin Collins, Carl learns that as well as dealing with the media circus converging on their town, the local police are busy investigating a waste material leak at the nearby Biomajor International Agricultural Research Center, and the gruesome murders of a young farm girl and her boyfriend. Somehow the dead are walking in Georges Corners – and they are very, very hungry…

Features the Variant Cover #2B by Dave Ulanski & Ken Wolak. Awesome!!

Finally in issue #3B, This is it, Kolchak fans! One more small town that thought “it couldn’t happen here” is overrun with the animated corpses of men and… pigs? Hey, zombies are zombies, and they’re everywhere! Carl Kolchak just wants to finish his story before lunch, especially since he’s on the menu! Just what IS the terrible secret behind this little farm town?
