DC Comics presents a darker, more fantastic style of the World’s Finest as the long-running team-up of Superman and Batman reprise their roles as the original World’s Finest. The McDougal castle had lain in ruins for ages, sitting lonely on an island in western Scotland. Then one day, a young girl decided to adventure into the ruins despite her parents’ wishes. She found a book of magic there, which she was similarly unable to resist exploring. Perhaps, she thought, she would be able to summon a winged horse and fly away. Instead, she summoned a demon. The demon was called Tullus, the spirit of a dead Scottish lord. Once loosed from the inferno, he called forth another dead spirit, the Silver Banshee, to possess the girl’s body. Together, Tullus hoped to break the curse he had himself brought upon his clan. But they would need help if they were to achieve their aim before Hell missed them. So, they decided on a plan to “recruit” two champions: Batman and Superman.
Story/Spoilers:
In book #1, “Perchance to Dream”, Superman and Batman join forces in an untold tale of nightmarish terror and infernal schemes. When Silver Banshee and the ancient entity Tullus unite against the demonic Blaze, the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight are drawn into a sinister web. Now the heroes are dreaming each other’s dreams while the villains battle in the Netherworld. And the outcome may cost them both their souls.
Next in book #2, “Dream A Little Dream…”, The untold tale of Superman and Batman’s struggle against Tullus, Silver Banshee and Blaze continues, as the demon Tullus succeeds in manipulating the dreams of both Batman and Superman, resulting in a darker, grimmer Man of Steel and a more idealistic Dark Knight.
Finally in book #3, “The Dream Team”, The untold tale of Superman and Batman’s struggle against Tullus, Silver Banshee and Blaze concludes as the Man of Steel is completely submerged in Tullus’s dreamworld. Only the Dark Knight can return the two heroes to reality – if the demonic Blaze and the Silver Banshee allow it.
